Department: Office for Culture and Student Development (OCSD) University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

Position Type: Part-Time (Academic year 5 to 8 hours per week)

Reports To: Coordinator of the respective Center (i.e. MRC NAC NTSC and QRC)

Position Summary:

QRC Peer Success Coach is a student position responsible for providing support to first year and transfer undergraduate students during their transition to UWSP. The Peer Success Coach will serve as a support student leader for the First-Year Experience Seminar class role model and mentor to students inside and outside of the classrooms by connecting them to on- and off campus addition assist in coordinating events and programs that provide engaging inclusive and academically integrated transitional experiences to enhance student belonging development and success at UWSP.

Compensation: $12.50 per hour

Hours: 5 to 8 hours per week

Peer Success Coach responsibilities could include:

  • Attend 100% of assigned First Year Experience seminar class in the Fall (if necessary Spring)

  • Arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to assist with classroom setup and preparation

  • Support professional staff during each class by assisting with attendance materials activities and technology as needed

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate class activities discussions or small group sessions per semester

  • Support professional staff by sharing weekly insights on student engagement concerns or trends

  • Promote course-related and campus events ensuring 100% of assigned programs are with students

  • Attend 100% of required trainings and development sessions

  • Set and track at least 2-3 personal leadership goals per semester

  • Attend and contribute to weekly individual and staff meetings sharing updates on outreach engagement and communications

  • Support early alert efforts by identifying and flagging at-risk students within the first 4-6 weeks of the semester

  • Assist in collecting and summarizing student feedback on the course experience

Qualifications:

  • Be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher)

  • Must be Sophomore standing or higher.

  • Strong written interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Familiar with UWSP Campus (i.e. Academic resources residential life campus activities)

  • Ability to address sensitive concerns of students in a professional tactful and confidential manner

  • Ability to work independently manage time effectively and maintain professionalism.

  • Ability to foster an open friendly and engaging environment that supports and respects the diverse needs of students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently an undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

  • Prior experience as a mentor tutor or related leadership position.

  • Experience facilitating group discussions or presentations.

  • Experience planning events
