UW Medical Center Montlake has an opportunity for a Perinatal Clinical Nurse Educator (Registered Nurse 3)

This educator will provide leadership and education across Labor & Delivery Antepartum and Postpartum services supporting clinical excellence and staff development.

OUR PERINATAL UNITS

Labor and Delivery
Approximately 200 deliveries per month at a quaternary care hospital
70% high-risk obstetric population including medically complex co-morbidities
Capacity for up to 6 High risk OB patients 14 antepartum patients 9 L&D patients Triage 2 ORs and 2 PACU bays
Full spectrum care: antepartum intrapartum and triage
Staffing aligned with AWHONN standards
Postpartum
Family-centered care model
18 postpartum mother/baby rooms
Care for medically complex and high-risk postpartum patients
Collaborative care with Obstetric Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Pediatric/Newborn providers available 24/7
Access to certified lactation consultants 7 days/week
Partnership with dedicated perinatal social workers for care coordination
Staffing aligned with AWHONN standards

RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a clinical expert in fetal heart tracing (FHT) interpretation and clinical decision-making; lead strip reviews provide expert feedback and identify educational opportunities; serve as an AWHONN EFM instructor

Serve as clinical expert for care of the critical care obstetrical patients; experience in caring for critical care OB patients provide education specific to critical care for the obstetrical patient telemetry and serve as ACLS instructor

Identify and improve documentation quality in the medical record; address gaps and provide actionable feedback
Drive and sustain performance improvement initiatives in partnership with the Clinical Nurse Specialist; analyze and track data to ensure compliance and outcomes
Act as a thoughtful communicator and change agent identifying barriers and advancing team performance excellence
Lead high-risk low-frequency simulation drills (e.g. maternal code neonatal code malignant hyperthermia amniotic fluid embolism)
Partner with Leadership and the Clinical Nurse Specialist to conduct skills assessments and competency validation including:

Maternal Codes

Obstetrical hemorrhage and massive transfusion protocol

Shoulder dystocia

Neonatal resuscitation

Intrauterine resuscitation

Severe hypertensive emergencies

Oversee and coordinate mandatory education and competency programs
Maintain education and compliance records for regulatory readiness
Support new staff onboarding including check-ins feedback to preceptors and coordination of clinical learning experiences
Serve as a primary resource for staff new to perinatal nursing
Collaborate with leadership to ensure staff competency as scope of care evolves

SCHEDULE
100% FTE variable shifts based on unit and educational needs

REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
Minimum 4 years of recent/current intrapartum clinical experience
Have/Obtain a Washington State RN license or MSL
BSN or higher
Relevant experience may substitute for some educational requirements

Compensation Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum:

$49.23 hourly

Pay Range Maximum:

$90.33 hourly

Other Compensation:

BSN or higher premium $1.00/hr Certification premium $1.25/hr Evening shift differential $3.00/hr Night Shift differential $5.00/hr Relocation available
