Position Summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance low maintenance zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission while co-creating the culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description

Our Staff Engineer is a key member of the engineering staff working across the organization to provide a friction-less experience to our customers and maintain the highest standards of protection and availability. Our team thrives and succeeds in delivering high-quality technology products and services in a hyper-growth environment where priorities shift quickly. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical knowledge typically ranging from front-end UIs through back-end systems and all points in between.

Position Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer you will:

  • Focus on multiple areas and provide leadership to the engineering teams

  • Own complete solution across its entire life cycle

  • Partners with engineering teams data scientists and product leaders todesign build and scale AI-powered capabilities that automate workflowsimprove decision-making and elevate user experience. You will alsomentor engineers who want to learn AI LLMs and agent-baseddevelopment fostering a culture of learning curiosity and innovation.

  • Use knowledge graphs to enhance reasoning entity relationships contextretrieval and multi-step workflows.

  • Drive innovation by exploring new models frameworks and reasoningtechniques and applying them creatively to real-world challenges.

  • Lead through technical influence by providing guidance on architectureexperimentation and deployment across multiple teams.

  • Run rigorous experimentation and evaluation including hypothesisdefinition measurement validation and iterative improvement inproduction environments.

  • Establish and model engineering best practices for reliabilityinterpretability safety governance and monitoring of production AIsystems.

  • Influence and build vision with product managers team memberscustomers and other engineering teams to solve complex problems forbuilding enterprise-class business applications

  • Accountable for the quality usability and performance of the solutions

  • Lead in design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality ofengineering across the organization

  • Utilize programming languages like Python C# or other object-orientedlanguages SQL and NoSQL databases Container Orchestration servicesincluding Docker and Kubernetes and a variety of Azure tools and services

  • Mentor more junior team members professionally to help them realizetheir full potential

  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams


Qualifications
  • Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such asJava Python or C# including object-oriented design

  • 8 or more years of professional software engineering or applied machine learning experience including 2 or more years working with Generative AIor LLM-based systems in production.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and modern AI frameworks suchas LangChain LangGraph LangSmith LlamaIndex Hugging Face andOpenAI or Anthropic APIs.

  • Demonstrated experience designing building and operating production AIsystems including agentic workflows and intelligent automation features.

  • Proven experience building scalable resilient secure and maintainableproducts and systems that run reliably in production.

  • Strong understanding of agent architectures workflow orchestrationretrieval-augmented generation vector databases and knowledge graphintegration.

  • Ability to collaborate deeply across teams and co-create solutions withengineers product managers and domain experts.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and helping others grow in AI LLM an agent-based system design.

  • A history of delivering measurable business outcomes from AI systems.

  • Strong competency in distributed systems service design performanceoptimization and reliability engineering.

  • Experience in building products using micro-services oriented architectureand extensible REST APIs

  • Experience building the architecture and design (architecture designpatterns reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle(task management source code building deployment operations real-time communication)

  • Risk assessment

  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced startup-like environment

Experience

  • 8 years of professional software development experience with C# Java or any object-oriented programming language and building advanced Generative AI capabilities including domain-tuned LLMs vector reasoning techniques or specialized retrieval architectures

  • 4 years of experience in open-source frameworks

  • 3 years of experience with architecture and design

  • 3 years of experience with AWS GCP Azure or another cloud service

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or equivalent education or work experience


Annual Salary

$115000.00 - $230000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include but are not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the role the selected candidates work experience education and training the work location as well as market and business considerations.
