Job Summary

The Administrative Supervisor supervises and coordinates the activities of nursing services personnel with all other departments to maintain the continuity of quality patient care. Acts as an administrative officer during weekends evenings and night shifts. The Administrative Supervisor works closely with medical staff nursing and allied health staff admitting EMS other hospitals the administrator on call communications and other hospital departments.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
  • Bachelors degree with an emphasis on healthcare management is desirable
  • Must have a minimum of five years of prior experience as a staff nurse a portion of which has included supervisory responsibilities
  • Requires considerable knowledge of nursing and of hospital policies and procedures
  • Requires excellent communication interpersonal managerial and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities of the Administrative Supervisor position include but are not limited to:

  • Increases/decreases staff as necessary in patient care areas based on patient acuity workload and skill requirements of nurses to meet patient care needs.
  • Assists staff as needed by acting as a resource including providing assistance with patient care relieving staff for meals or breaks patient transportation etc.
  • Provides feedback to the nursing directors related to employee performance and the occurrence of critical incidents in a timely manner.
  • Makes rounds on nursing units and in non-nursing departments during each shift. Reviews patient acuity and care with staff during rounds; provides assistance as necessary. Listens to and evaluates staff concerns and follows through with corrective actions.
  • Prepares and maintains various reports (e.g. shift report ANSOS report and Womans Hospital Bed Board report) throughout the organization. Issues to be addressed in the shift report include: areas of potential concern including patients staffing problems supply equipment or linen problems etc.; incomplete tasks paperwork or consultations to be carried over to the next shift; and relevant management decisions.
  • Evaluates validity of staff-physician patient-physician and patient-staff disputes. Works to resolve complaints and/or disputes. If resolution is not possible directs complaint to the appropriate director/administrator or Patient Relations for follow-up. Communicates pertinent information about problems and anticipated problems within the unit to appropriate director/administrator in an accurate complete concise and timely manner.
  • Responds to codes as indicated; assists as needed; and documents in accordance with departmental policy. Is familiar with emergency plans and responds effectively and in accordance with established hospital procedure. Participates in hospital-wide drills as scheduled.
  • Assesses evaluates and delivers care to employees and/or visitors injured on hospital premises. Completes appropriate forms and follows physicians orders.
  • Assesses evaluates and delivers care as appropriate for employee illness.
  • Maintains current knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
  • Resolves conflict related to physician/staff/family and security issues.
  • Maintains current knowledge of day-to-day clinical operations and procedures.
  • Obtains resources such as supplies equipment and medical records necessary for patient care. Performs functions of ancillary departments as needed after hours.
  • Coordinates care of patient/family at the time of death to include contacting the coroner morgue Social Services funeral home and the Louisiana Organ Procurement Association.
  • Refers adult rape or other abuse to Social Services or other agency upon request.
  • Assists with projects as assigned for nursing administration.
  • Performs various duties assigned by department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Womans Hospital.

Hours:

Part-time; Nights

7pm to 7am including weekends

Pay Range:

$36.89 - $60.87 plus shift differentials
