POSITION SPECIFICS

Position available immediately for a Research Technologist Life Sciences - Professional in the Majoris and Stewart Labs at The Pennsylvania State University under the direct supervision of Dr. John Majoris. The labs study the ecology and evolution of fishes with an emphasis on how environmental conditions influence development behavior and population dynamics integrating experimental and quantitative approaches.

The successful applicant will support laboratory research of the PIs students and postdocs. Responsibilities include assisting with experimental design setup and data collection for studies of growth behavior physiology and morphology. Experimental approaches include imaging and morphometric analysis behavioral assays and physiological measurements (e.g. respirometry) along with data organization and analysis using platforms such as R Excel and ImageJ.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating laboratory supplies and equipment preparing stock solutions and supporting data management and general lab operations. The position will also support aquatic research systems including monitoring environmental parameters maintaining records and facilitating experimental workflows involving live food cultures broodstock populations and larval rearing.

The Research Technologist will assist with laboratory safety and research compliance including maintaining records tracking inventories and supporting training of students and staff. Responsibilities also include coordinating undergraduate research assistants and participating in lab meetings.

The successful applicant must work effectively in a team environment communicate clearly and maintain accurate well-organized records. Strong organizational skills attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.

Experience with aquatic research systems live food cultures (e.g. algae rotifers) and larval fish rearing is preferred. Experience with data analysis in R and an open-water scuba diving certification is beneficial but not required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelors Degree No prior relevant work experience required; previous relevant work experience accepted in lieu of education. Required Certifications: None

The salary range for this position including all possible grades is $34800.00 - $50500.00.
