DescriptionAs a Supported Employment and Education Specialist you will work as part of a small multidisciplinary team providing treatment in the earliest stages of illness. You will support the educational and employment needs for OnTrack NY enrolled participants and help participants to identify interests and skills related to education and employment. The OnTrackNY Program is an innovative treatment program that serves adolescents and young adults who are within two years of experiencing the onset of non-affective psychosis. OnTrackNY is an evidence-based approach assisting individuals with mental illness to obtain rapid employment and mainstream educational opportunities. You will report to the Director of OnTrackNY and you will work onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Engage clients and establish trusting collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of education or employment in community job settings
- Provide job development and job search services directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the people on your caseload following the principles and procedures of the individual placement and support approach to supported employment.
- Conduct at least 4 employer contacts per week.
- Provide individualized support to assist clients in maintaining employment or education
- Arrange access to benefits counseling.
- Spend 65% or more time of scheduled work hours in the community including meeting clients at community locations (e.g. home workplace school coffee shop library etc.); taking clients to apply for jobs; investigating local employment options; or meeting with employers regarding job development
Requirements and Education:
- Bachelors degree in mental health or a related field
- One year of related experience
- Training and experience working with adolescents or young adults with serious mental illness
- Experience providing employment services
- New York State Drivers license
