About Eagle Bay Academy
Eagle Bay Academy is a small relationship-driven alternative high school within the Burlington School District. We serve students who have not found success in traditional settings and are looking for a more personalized relevant and supportive learning experience.
Our model is grounded in:

Essential Functions
- Design and facilitate project-based and interdisciplinary learning experiences grounded in social studies content (e.g. history civics economics and global studies)
- Ensure student work aligns with Vermont proficiency-based graduation requirements and relevant social studies standards
- Integrate critical thinking research discussion and civic engagement into student learning experiences
- Develop and implement personalized learning plans based on student interests strengths and goals
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students providing academic and social-emotional support
- Build strong relationships with students families and community partners
- Coordinate and support internships and community-based learning opportunities connecting them to social studies concepts when possible
- Monitor and communicate student progress through narratives conferences and regular outreach
- Collaborate with colleagues special educators and support staff
- Contribute to a safe inclusive and restorative school environment
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelors degree
- Vermont Educator License (or eligibility)
- Endorsement in Social Studies History or related field (or eligibility)
Preferred:
- Experience working with high school students
- Experience in alternative experiential or project-based learning environments
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learners
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Experience collaborating within a team-based environment
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Commitment to student-centered and personalized learning
- Ability to build strong trusting relationships with students and families
- Flexibility creativity and comfort working in a nontraditional setting
- Understanding of inclusive practices and cultural responsiveness
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Employment Terms
- Pay: Long-Term Substitute pay is set at $25.00 per hour for the first 30 days and increases to $38.55 per hour starting on day 31 based on a 7.75-hour workday
- Estimated Contract Term:August 18 2026 - January 3 2027
