USTA Southwest one of 17 regional sections across the country that comprise the United States Tennis Association (USTA) is a not-for-profit organization committed to promoting and developing the growth of tennis and increasing participation in the sport in Arizona and New Mexico and by offering quality recreational and competitive programs for people of all ages and abilities. USTA Southwest originated as the Border States Tennis Association in 1912 and through various iterations and charters became a part of the United States Tennis Association. For more than a century our goal has been to further the sport of tennis in our region.

The Role

The Phoenix Local League Coordinator will assist the USTA Southwest (SWS) in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis. This position is responsible for strategically driving implementing and analyzing community-based tennis programs identified in the SWS Strategic Plan focusing on data-driven growth and player retention within the Phoenix Region.

Adult Leagues

  • Promote and develop successful implementation of all USTA League products
  • Drive Digital Engagement: Execute targeted communication strategies (web newsletters social media) to maximize participation and leverage digital tools like the League Communication Center.
  • Develop Local League calendar within the Sectional and National calendars
  • Schedule and administer Local League seasons including playoffs and District Championships
  • Educate players on the NTRP rating program and League Regulations (Regional Sectional and National)
  • Recruit and develop captains
  • Utilize the League Communication Center and messaging
  • Manage League Operations & Conflict Resolution: Oversee regional playoff execution and serve as the primary point of contact for all league matters including effective conflict and grievance resolution.

Adult Competition & Recreation

  • Promote administer and support non-advancing products including Tri Level 55 & Over Mixed Doubles Mixed Tri Level etc.
  • Promote administer and support Adult competitive tournaments as needed
  • Champion and integrate diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts by actively promoting tennis opportunities for multicultural participants and volunteers.

Support Organization Members and Community Events

  • Meet with tennis facility personnel to assess their needs; provide resources education and marketing materials
  • Cultivate Strategic Partnerships and Advocacy: Proactively engage with tennis facilities and community organizations to identify needs secure strategic alliances provide targeted resources and represent the Region in workshops/events designed to strengthen the local delivery system.

Other Duties:

  • Attend SWS Board Meetings as requested
  • Attend Regional Advisory Council meetings
  • Attend SWS section staff meetings
  • Attend regular SWS League Staff Calls and meetings
  • Attend National USTA Staff Training as requested
  • Attend and support assigned Section championships

REGION SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Produce content and update the Region website
  • Produce consumer e-newsletters
  • Attend Regional Advisory Council Meetings

TRAVEL DEMANDS: This position requires low to moderate travel including Section Events USTA League Staff Training National Championship events as authorized and to tennis facilities within the region. Ability to travel for the job both inside and outside the Section including weekends.

Who You Are

  • A collaborative team player with high emotional intelligence and strong customer service skills.
  • Effective communicator with expertise in written correspondence public speaking and presentations.
  • Highly organized self-starter capable of managing multiple projects and priorities concurrently.
  • Digitally savvy with advanced proficiency in Google Workspace and a quick ability to learn platform-specific tools such as Serve Tennis and TennisLink.
  • Passionate about tennis advocacy; bilingual skills and a college degree are preferred.
  • A professional team player with strong interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills
  • High energy and passion with a desire to promote tennis
  • Understanding the National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP).
  • Knowledge of Tennis. Tennis playing experience.
  • Able to be in the Scottsdale office for at least 10 days per month 2 core days per week (M/T/W/Th)
  • Comfortable traveling throughout the Metro Phoenix / Scottsdale region as needed
