Location: Safe Haven Shelter Schedule: Full-Time (Hourly) Reports to: Director of Housing Initiatives
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Childrens Support Specialist to support children and families in our emergency shelter housing programs and community services.
In this role you will create a safe engaging and trauma-informed environment for children who have experienced crisis. Through structured activities play and positive connection you will help foster stability growth and a sense of normalcy.
This is a non-clinical direct service role focused on enrichment advocacy and support.
What Youll Do
Plan and lead age-appropriate activities (arts & crafts games reading outdoor play)
Facilitate individual and group programming that promotes life skills self-esteem and conflict resolution
Build supportive relationships with children and caregivers
Monitor childrens well-being and share updates with case management staff
Maintain clean safe and welcoming childrens spaces
Collaborate with shelter staff to support family-centered programming
Participate in case review meetings and provide input on childrens needs
Complete documentation service logs and data entry
Provide advocacy and support to children impacted by domestic violence
Assist with goal setting and safety planning for children
Partner with caregivers to support positive parenting and child development
Coordinate with community partners (schools childcare providers social services)
Support or lead community education efforts on the impact of domestic violence on children
Uphold confidentiality and trauma-informed care principles at all times
What Were Looking For
Bachelors degree in Child Development Education Social Work or related field preferred
3 - 5 years of experience working with children (education childcare community programs etc.)
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and domestic violence dynamics a plus
Strong communication relationship-building and de-escalation skills
Understanding of child development and ability to recognize concerns
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Experience working with diverse and underserved populations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Valid drivers license reliable transportation and ability to travel
