The Department of Environment and Geography at California State University San Marcos is accepting applications for Fall 2026. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. Seeking lecturers to teach a lower-division physical science general education (5A) course in physical geography. The course description is below.

Course Description

Explores imminent global environmental problems and how society is responding to those problems with innovative solutions. Introduces several ideological environmental and socio-economic factors that contribute to the production of environmental problems and solutions. Draws parallels between specific environmental problems and their possible solutions.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A masters degree in environmental studies environmental science geography sociology political science sustainability or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of global environmental issues and societal responses.
  • Experience teaching at the college level or evidence of strong potential for effective undergraduate teaching.
  • Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employee Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside of California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A doctorate in Environmental Studies or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience teaching courses on global environmental change sustainability environmental policy or related subjects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing ideological socioeconomic and environmental factors contributing to environmental problems.
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations and employing culturally responsive pedagogical practices.
  • Familiarity with solutionoriented approaches to environmental challenges such as technological innovation policy interventions or communitybased strategies.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5507 - $8000 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5507 - $6677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer B - AY: $6221 - $13224per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
