We are seeking a talented and experienced manager to lead a dynamic team of component engineers in developing next-generation technology for wireless communication systems in the defense industry. As a manager you will direct inspire and grow a team of diverse engineers in becoming the experts and primary contacts for both commercially available and custom components used in L3Harris products. Through your leadership and example you will guide this team in proactively seeking opportunities to collaborate with other L3Harris engineers to design produce and support cutting-edge products for the warfighters. Essential Functions:
- Lead a team of component engineers in researching selecting evaluating sourcing and documenting parts as well as working with design & systems engineering to integrate those parts into assemblies and modules.
- Guide component engineers in developing and pursuing their desired career path through goal planning performance evaluations and team meetings.
- Facilitate continuous-improvement initiatives including a focus on Design for Excellence (DfX) to enhance component reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure component compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
- Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the component database and documentation.
- Develop and implement strategies for component-obsolescence management and risk mitigation.
- Provide technical guidance and support for component-related issues throughout the design testing production and maintenance phases of hardware systems.
- Conduct supplier assessments and coordinate with vendors for component procurement and evaluations.
- Ensure adherence to company policies engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the budget and resources allocated to the component-engineering team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Materials Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in component engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient interpersonal communication skills for conducting one-on-one meetings leading team meetings and presenting to large audiences.
- Self-motivated individual who practices and promotes teamwork out-of-the-box thinking and cross-functional collaboration while working within company-defined processes and procedures.
- Strong understanding of component-lifecycle management obsolescence strategies industry standards and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of engineering concepts practices and procedures needed to solve technical problems and meet critical deadlines.
- Good written verbal and presentation skills.
- Proficiency/familiarity with mechanical CAD tools especially Siemens NX.
- Familiarity with creating reviewing and understanding mechanical & electrical drawings.
- Familiarity with tolerances and manufacturing terminology and processes.
- Proficiency/familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter PLM and SAP ERP software.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and how its used to manage project budgets and schedules.
