Job Summary
Overview
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB.
The Kitchen Support Specialist will assist in organizing managing and coordinating daily food service functions across
the campus as well as assisting in supervising of volunteers who carry out these functions. This not only includes monitoring the
service of food and beverages to clients and students but also knowledge and adherence to labor laws and health
compliance regulations.
The Kitchen Support Specialist will place food orders monitor inventory work with Cook to create menus
ensure cleanliness of kitchen and food/supplies storage and meet industry and legal requirements for all aspects of food
service.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Work with Soup Kitchen Cook and monitor the day-to-day operations of the hot meal program Learning Zone food service (preschool afterschool and summer enrichment) and special event meals and snacks.
- Plan with Cook for food for entire food service program.
- Place orders for all supplies and food. Work with Director of Social Services and Soup Kitchen Cook for ACRFB ordering.
- Cook meals in absence of Cook.
- Ensure food in storage is dated and rotated to meet adequate levels of nutrition and sustenance.
- Working with Soup Kitchen Cook maintain required records including food production inventory income/expense meal counts temperature logs and certifications.
- Ensure the program follows proper sanitation procedures including recycling program.
- Along with the Soup Kitchen Cook assist with the management over food service volunteers including cooks food preparers and others.
- Ensure safety standards are maintained while food is being cooked.
- Oversee preparation and serving of food.
- Work with Cook to plan menus for all areas working in conjunction with LZ administration and special event hosts.
- Refer any consumer preferences and complaints to the Social Services Ministries Coordinator.
- Adhere to Kitchen budget for programs.
- Work with the Soup Kitchen Cook to maintain current equipment including refrigerators stoves microwaves dish machines ice machine and grease traps working with the Facilities Director. Clear and prompt communication of issues is expected.
- Work with Soup Kitchen Cook to ensure the dining experience is satisfactory.
- Along with the Soup Kitchen Cook train and oversee volunteers.
- Direct the cleaning of the dining area and kitchen.
- Keep records of supplies and purchases in official Salvation Army inventory forms.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
All Food Services volunteers.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE.
- High school diploma
- Background or training in food service and preparation
- Prior experience working in a service position of a restaurant
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Skills in managing personnel and clients
- Basic computer skills for ordering and record keeping
- Comfortable working within a Christian Ministry environment
SPECIAL SKILLS CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS.
- Valid and Current Drivers license
- ServSafe Manager Certification
