SUMMARY: This position is responsible for acquiring organizing managing and distributing library resources and ensuring that library services meets the needs of all its users. The librarian manages learning resources facilitates access to information in a wide variety of formats instructs students and teachers on how to acquire information and introduces children and young adults to literature.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates and directs the activities of school library media support personnel including library media assistants technical assistants student assistants and volunteers.
Provides the leadership and instructional resources and services for implementation of a school library media program that serves as an integral part of a student-centered educational process
Plans and implements for teaching and learning by
Assessing learning and information needs of students and staff
Planning and working collaboratively with teachers administrators and students
Classifies catalogues and organizes materials according to a standard classification system for easy accessibility
Promotes appreciation of various forms of literature
Leading in the schools use of instructional technology to enhance learning
Upgrading professional knowledge and skills on a continual basis
Encourages reading by maintaining an awareness of students reading interests and providing guidance in the selection of appropriate materials
Leads teachers technology staff and students in a collaborative process to select and evaluate resources that address curricular needs and learning goals of students and teachers in the information age
Collaborates with individual school and/or district administrators to ensure that funds are budgeted to maintain the library program
Keeps accurate inventories of print non- print and technology materials and equipment
Implements an ongoing collection development and evaluation process for future additions of print non-print and technology
Adheres to copyright as well as other laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and use of resources
Works with school staff to design and implement short- and long-range plans to ensure balance among teaching instructional technology collaboration collection development and program management.
Evaluates the school library media program on a continual basis according to accepted standards of quality based on the AASL Standards
Organizes school library media facilities and resources in a manner that supports the mission goals and objectives of the school and maximizes intellectual and physical access to resources.
Interacts effectively with students staff administration and the general public to promote and expand the school library media program.
Demonstrates professional integrity through ethical behavior
Prepares and submits accurate reports as required including goals objectives and budgetary needs for the library program
Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Mississippi certification with endorsement 438-Librarian (K-12) or 440-Media Librarian (K-12)
