Position Summary
The Dean ofMath and Scienceswill provideoversight anddirect support services to the faculty staff programs and services within theMath and SciencesDivision under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean will shape academic strategy through collegial governance strategicplanningand institutional effectiveness processes. Through active participation in area business and industry mathematical and scientific organizationsactivities and with academic divisional Early College office/high schools for dual enrollmentand university partners the dean will promote andassistin the development of new courses and programs for the division.
The Dean ofMath and Sciencessupportsthe purposevaluesand mission of the College through the following duties:
Fiscal Stewardship
Participate in college-wide planning and resource development; direct the development and administration of a cost-effective budget for assigned functions; direct the forecast ofadditionalfunds needed for staffing equipmentmaterialsand supplies;monitorand approve expenditures; and make midyear corrections
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
Create and lead academic planning to provide quality programs in theMath and SciencesDivision
Supervise the growth and expansion of all curriculum modalities oflearning
Create a culture of innovation and input that encourages professional development and stakeholder input and provides opportunities for growth
In compliance with the requirements of the program and institutional bodies developnew degree programs and options based on local and regional needs and the Colleges strategic plan
Support program chairs inmaintainingprogram accreditation
In collaboration with other college divisions and with the area school districts leaddivisionalinitiatives to expandearly postsecondary opportunities forhigh school students
Initiatecollaborativeprogramsand articulation agreementswith baccalaureate institutions
Promotesupportandparticipatein student recruitment and retention efforts
Organizational Culture
Recommend employment superviseevaluateand recommend promotion and/or tenure for faculty; recommend retention or dismissal asappropriate; ensure thatappropriate supportis provided to full and part-time faculty; engage in conflict resolution among faculty and staff; support faculty/staff development
Work collaboratively with vice presidents and members of the Presidents Cabinetas needed
Work collaboratively withotherdivisions/departmentsin the development of short-term training to meet the needs of the community
Create a culture that promotes theongoing implementationofnew technologies
Advise theVice President for Academic Affairson matters of academic affairs and other college-wide issues
Represent the College with external community partners (e.g. business industryschool districtsand other higher educational institutions)
Holistic Student Support
Collaborate with faculty deans and other administrators to meet the holistic needs of ourstudentsensuring diversity equity and inclusion
Provide leadership for activities and events that build community and serve students and staff
Minimum RequiredQualifications:
Masters degree(doctorate preferred)from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline taught withinthe Division
A minimum of5 yearsdemonstratedcommunity college educational program management/leadership and supervisory experience
Minimum offiveyears community college teaching experience
Excellent interpersonal organizational and time management skills
Must have the ability to collect information perform analysis and recommend solutions
Mustpossessa general knowledge of operation and organizational structures of a multi-campus community college environment; instructional standardscurriculumand accreditation requirements; computer software skills; file management and reporting systems; andinitiatingand successfully working with advisory groups and/or community agencies
Salary Range: $86048 - $107560
Pay will be determined based on experience and education in accordance with the salary guidelines of the Tennessee Board of Regents. To ensure consideration all relevant work experience must be included in the application.
