Mainframe application development

Job Description:

• Design develop and maintain mainframe batch and online applications supporting capital markets and banking workflows
• Develop and enhance COBOL programs for business critical processing logic
• Build and support CICS online transactions with strong performance and availability SLAs
• Create maintain and tune JCL jobs for large scale batch processing and scheduling
• Design and optimize DB2 (z/OS) database access SQL queries and indexing strategies
• Work with VSAM datasets file definitions and data access patterns
• Perform root cause analysis and resolve production defects efficiently
• Support audit regulatory and compliance requirements through controlled and traceable changes
• Collaborate with business analysts QA teams and operations in Agile delivery models
• Participate in code reviews performance tuning and mentoring of junior resources

Core Technical Skills

• COBOL (Batch & Online)
• CICS transaction processing
• JCL (Job Control Language) scheduling restart/recovery performance tuning
• DB2 z/OS Application Programming
• VSAM (KSDS ESDS RRDS)
• Strong understanding of Mainframe architecture and z/OS utilities

Financial Services / Capital Markets Domain Experience

• Experience with broker dealer banking or capital markets systems
• Knowledge of high volume transaction processing and batch cycles
• Understanding of data reconciliation controls and audit trails
• Familiarity with regulatory environments and change control processes
• Experience supporting 24x7 production systems with strict SLAs

Nice to Have Skills

• z/OS Connect or API enablement of mainframe applications
• Mainframe modernization exposure (refactoring API enablement or coexistence models)
• Tools such as EASYTRIEVE REXX or schedulers (e.g. CA 7)
• Experience working in distributed mainframe hybrid architectures
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices adapted for mainframe ecosystems
