JOB IDENTIFICATION

Job Title: Inclusion Assistant - General

Grade: V

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Department: Recreation

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Program Manager and Superintendent of Administration

BASIC FUNCTION

The Inclusion Assistant provides personalized support to participants with disabilities or special needs fostering their participation in recreational programs. This role focuses on inclusion engagement and positive social experiences for program participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Responsible for maintaining inclusion of the assigned participant(s) into Park District programming.
  2. Modify and adapt activities for the assigned participant(s) if they are unable to participate without a modification.
  3. Develop and implement a behavior management plan for the assigned participant(s).
  4. Take initiative to interact with and work as a team-player with participants(s) family peers volunteers and other Park District staff.
  5. Greet and connect with participant(s) guardians as needed upon drop off or pick up times.
  6. Assist other program staff with identifying participants that may benefit from inclusion services.
  7. Develop a positive and professional relationship with the participant and attend to their physical needs when necessary.
  8. Attend mandatory trainings for inclusion.
  9. All questions concerns accommodation changes and training that is related to the job duties of inclusion assistance should be directed to the Superintendent of Administration.

OTHER DUTIES

  1. Administer First Aid when required.
  2. Coordinate staff to direct patrons in the event of an emergency such as severe weather or fire.
  3. Follow all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Park District Safety and Crisis Manuals.
  4. Maintain compliance with all confidentiality laws and policies within the Park District.
  5. Attend related training as requested.
  6. Additional duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of some High School or higher education

Experience: Ability and desire to work with individuals with disabilities in a recreational environment.

Introductory knowledge of the strengths and concerns of people with developmental mental physical and sensory disabilities.

Ability to maintain a calm disposition in times of stress.

Certifications: CPR and First Aid Certification Classes available through the Park District upon hire.
