ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Works in all phases of traffic signal work including the operation of a bucket truck to make necessary connections from supply current to signals Cuts threads and mounts conduit on poles Installs and maintains traffic signals miscellaneous appurtenances such as time switches and directional signals automatic time switches ultrasonic vehicle detectors and synchronizers Maintains all types of signal equipment analyzing testing and repairing in the field and shop Investigates complaints pertaining to defective signals replaces signal lamps and cleans lenses Responds to emergency requirements during both duty and off duty hours Installs and maintains traffic control devices in the field Uses hand tools post hole diggers and may performs cement work in the erection of any approved traffic control devices Assembles other traffic safety warning devices to secure a work or hazard area Installs and maintains temporary and permanent traffic control devices as per latest versions of Florida Department of Transportation Manuals and Federal Highway Administrations Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Handbook Directs flags or otherwise routes traffic through or around work areas when required This position is subject to emergency call-out normally on a scheduled basis Maintains a professional and safe unit and work area adhering to established safety policies and the image desired for the organization. Follows consistently the Boards policies and procedures. Responds productively to change and performs all other related tasks as directed.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of methods practices techniques and materials of the electrical trade and equipment used in traffic signals Knowledge of safe operation of bucket truck Ability to operate other light utility equipment and vehicles Skill in the use and care of the tools of the electrical trade Ability to work with precision necessary when dealing with electrical wires and parts Knowledge of or ability to become familiar with personal computers to maintain electronic time sheets emails calendar appts. fundamental spreadsheet workbooks and fundamental word processing Ability to read and work from plans and schematics Ability to communicate and carry out oral and written instructions Ability to locate need for and to make emergency repairs Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers managers supervisors directors elected officials vendors and the general public
PHYSICAL SKILLS:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 25% of the time. The individual in this position frequently communicates with the public vendors and co-workers. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Occasionally ascends/descends stairs climb ladders scaffolding etc. Frequently moves materials and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Consistently works in an outdoor environment. Occasionally works in inclement outdoor weather conditions. Frequently operates a motor vehicle or heavy equipment for up to four (4) hours continuously or intermittently.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years in electrical work. Completion of an apprenticeship program in electronics or similar field.
LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver license and can secure a valid Florida driver license Class B at the time of employment.
