About the Opportunity

Office of Peer Tutoring at Northeastern University

Northeastern Peer Tutoring provides free peer-to-peer academic support for undergraduate students connecting them with highly qualified Northeastern peers who have excelled in the courses they tutor. The program offers one-on-one and small-group tutoring delivered in person and online through an external tutoring platform across a range of supported courses each semester. Peer tutoring is designed to promote academic success strengthen student confidence and support learning through collaborative student-centered engagement. Tutors participate in structured training and professional development aligned with College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) standards at all three levels. The program also partners with faculty and campus stakeholders to ensure tutoring services are visible accessible and aligned with broader academic support efforts.

Position: Director of Peer Tutoring

The Director of Peer Tutoring provides strategic leadership for peer tutoring as a core component of Northeasterns academic support and student success ecosystem. The role is responsible for advancing a cohesive high-quality and equitable peer tutoring model that supports student learning confidence and persistence across programs and disciplines. The Director brings a forward-looking perspective to the work staying attuned to emerging pedagogical practices and learning assistance models while championing peer-to-peer learning as a high-impact educational practice.

The Director oversees the full scope of peer tutoring services including in-person and online delivery and ensures alignment between tutoring practices curricular needs and institutional learning outcomes. The role serves as a connector across academic departments and student support units helping integrate peer tutoring into the broader learning environment while maintaining consistent standards effective operations and a strong student experience.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy

  • Provide vision and strategic direction for peer tutoring programs aligned with institutional priorities
  • Establish policies procedures and service models to ensure high-quality and equitable tutoring experiences
  • Oversee all peer tutoring initiatives including co-curricular and course-embedded models as appropriate
  • Collaborate with faculty academic departments advising and student support partners across the global network to align tutoring with curricular goals
  • Represent peer tutoring in campus-wide conversations related to learning assistance and student success

Supervision and Professional Development

  • Recruit hire supervise and evaluate professional staff supporting peer tutoring
  • Oversee recruitment onboarding training and supervision of peer tutors
  • Design and deliver comprehensive tutor training grounded in learning science inclusive pedagogy and nationally recognized standards including CRLA-aligned practices
  • Provide ongoing professional development coaching and support to foster a culture of reflection excellence and continuous improvement

Platform Oversight and Integration

  • Oversee the institutional partnership with an external tutoring platform supporting peer tutoring delivery
  • Manage vendor relationships and guide platform integration with campus systems and operational workflows
  • Ensure the platform effectively supports tutor matching scheduling communication and data reporting
  • Use platform data and insights to improve service delivery scale and the overall tutoring experience

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Lead the development and implementation of assessment strategies to evaluate program effectiveness student learning outcomes and equity of access
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to inform decision-making program improvement and strategic planning
  • Prepare reports and presentations that communicate impact and trends to campus partners and leadership
  • Ensure assessment practices align with institutional expectations and emerging best practices in learning assistance

With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
