POSITION TITLE: K-12 Special Education Teacher
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide academic instruction and social support to students in kindergarten through 12th grade who qualify for special education with a focus on kindergarten through 5th grade.
DISTRICT VISION STATEMENT:
Through collaboration and student produced evidence of learning the students of Northport Public School will understand the world around them and be able to use their skills and knowledge to be successful citizens in the 21st century and beyond.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
- Special Education Endorsement
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote measurable student growth.
- Faithfully implement and monitor IEPs.
- Coordinate services and IEPs with the Intermediate School District.
- Support general education teachers with implementing IEPs.
- Maintain an atmosphere of trust respect interest and enthusiasm within the school.
- Embrace change and innovation and possess the ability to envision and actualize learning beyond the traditional walls of the classroom and school.
- Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students.
- Establish a professional rapport with students staff colleagues and the greater school community that promotes mutual respect through the display of the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents to create cooperative relationships that support students in the school and at home.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Compensation as outlined in Master Agreement between Northport Public School Board of Education and Northport Education Association. Current starting salary between $47000 and $77000 based on experience and degree but the Master Agreement is under negotiation.
