Sophos Speech and Academics is seeking an Advanced Math and Science Instructor to provide individualized academic support for secondary level students. Instruction focuses on course support concept mastery and academic skill development in higher level mathematics and science including Algebra through Calculus and high school science courses such as Biology Chemistry Physics and related honors or AP coursework. Services are delivered in person at the Sophos learning center partner campuses or student homes.
This is an independent contractor position. Contractors may accept or decline student assignments based on availability and subject expertise. Assignments depend on student demand and scheduling compatibility. Hours are not guaranteed.
Service Window
Instruction for daytime students occurs during school hours generally 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Compensation
$35 to $40 per instructional hour depending on experience and subject level.
Responsibilities
Provide one to one academic instruction in advanced math and science subjects
Support coursework problem solving and test preparation
Break down complex concepts into structured understandable steps
Adjust instruction based on student understanding and pacing
Maintain timely and accurate session documentation
Travel to assigned service locations as agreed
Maintain professional communication with families and staff
Preferred Areas of Strength
Algebra I Geometry Algebra II Precalculus Calculus
Biology Chemistry Physics and other high school sciences
Honors or AP level coursework support
Qualifications
Strong content knowledge in upper level math and or science
Experience working with secondary students in an instructional setting
Reliable transportation
Possession of a valid Arizona IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card or ability to obtain one prior to providing services
Professional dependable and comfortable working one to one with students
Work Relationship
Independent contractor 1099 classification
Contractors choose which students to accept
Schedule varies based on student need
Ongoing assignments are not guaranteed
