Position Summary

Plumbing Solutions is a residential new construction plumbing contractor operating a hub-and-spoke model across four branches. Material is purchased and staged through a central hub and flows to job phases in each market. Material cost is one of the largest line items in the business and material readiness directly drives field schedule performance.

The Director of Purchasing and Warehouse Operations owns procurement and the hub warehouse end to end. This role is accountable for buying right holding material cost inside target keeping hub inventory accurate and staging material so the field is never waiting. Success is measured in cost discipline inventory accuracy and on-time material flow not activity.


Core Accountabilities

Procurement and Vendor Management

  • Direct all purchasing of plumbing material fixtures hardware tools and indirect spend across branches
  • Negotiate pricing rebates and terms; hold vendors to agreed pricing and service standards
  • Enforce purchase order discipline and approval controls; eliminate off-process and uncontrolled buying
  • Enforce spec versus custom material rules so the right material is bought for the right job
  • Evaluate onboard and manage vendors; maintain backup supply to prevent single-source risk

Hub Warehouse and Inventory Control

  • Own hub warehouse operations layout and material handling standards
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts and disciplined receiving and issuing
  • Reduce stockouts excess and obsolete material; control shrinkage and waste
  • Set and enforce standards for staging kitting and material readiness by phase

Material Flow and Schedule Support

  • Stage material ahead of phase schedule so the field is supplied before it starts not chasing material
  • Coordinate with scheduling and branch operations to align material flow to the production calendar
  • Run a reliable replenishment process across all four branches from the central hub

Cost and Margin Discipline

  • Hold material cost inside the company target as a percentage of revenue
  • Identify and execute cost reduction without sacrificing quality or schedule
  • Control material-driven back charges and waste; track and report variance

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop purchasing associates and warehouse staff
  • Set clear performance standards and hold the team accountable to them
  • Build process and documentation so the function does not depend on any single person


Why This Role

This is an ownership seat not a buying desk. You will own procurement and the hub warehouse for a growing multi-branch contractor and be measured on the outcomes that protect margin and keep the field running. The person who holds this role builds the system that material flow depends on across the company.


Requirements:

Required

  • 5 or more years in purchasing materials management or warehouse operations leadership
  • Proven vendor negotiation and purchase order control
  • Inventory control experience with demonstrated accuracy results
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP or inventory management systems
  • Experience leading a team and enforcing performance standards

Preferred

  • Background in plumbing residential new construction building products or related trades
  • Experience managing material flow across multiple sites or branches
  • Familiarity with high-volume material staging to field or installation schedules
