Land Surveyor – Water Infrastructure Projects
Job Summary
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Land Surveyor to support site surveying mapping and geospatial data collection for water infrastructure projects.
The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience in topographic surveys route alignment construction setting-out and boundary surveys for projects such as water treatment plants pumping stations borehole schemes and transmission pipelines. Experience on donor-funded NGO-sponsored or government projects is highly desirable.
The role requires strong expertise in modern surveying equipment geospatial data processing and interpretation of engineering drawings to support design and construction activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Surveying & Data Collection:
Conduct topographic control and boundary surveys for project sites.
Perform route surveys for pipelines transmission mains and access roads.
Establish benchmarks and control points for construction activities.
Collect accurate field data using GPS Total Station and other surveying equipment.
Design Support:
Provide survey data to support engineering design and planning.
Prepare survey maps contour plans profiles and cross-sections.
Assist in route selection and alignment studies for pipelines and infrastructure.
Ensure survey outputs meet project specifications and standards.
Setting-Out & Construction Support:
Carry out setting-out of structures pipelines and mechanical installations.
Provide on-site survey support during construction activities.
Verify alignment levels and positions of installed components.
Monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design coordinates.
Data Processing & Reporting:
Process survey data using relevant software (e.g. AutoCAD Civil 3D GIS tools).
Prepare detailed survey reports drawings and documentation.
Maintain accurate records of survey data and field notes.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure all survey activities comply with project requirements and standards.
Conduct periodic checks to verify accuracy of survey data.
Support audits and donor compliance reviews where required.
Maintenance & Rehabilitation Support:
Support surveys for rehabilitation and expansion of existing infrastructure.
Assess site conditions and provide data for upgrade planning.
Assist in resolving survey-related issues during project execution.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
BSc/HND in Surveying Geomatics Geoinformatics or related field.
Minimum of 57 years of relevant experience in land surveying preferably within water infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
Experience in pipeline surveys water facilities or construction projects is required.
Experience handling donor-funded NGO-sponsored or government projects is an added advantage.
Professional Certification (Compulsory):
Registered with SURCON (Surveyors Council of Nigeria)
Membership of Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS)
Technical Competencies:
Proficiency in use of Total Station GPS/GNSS equipment and leveling instruments.
Strong knowledge of surveying principles coordinate systems and geodetic controls.
Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D GIS software and data processing tools.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and site plans.
Understanding of Nigerian surveying regulations and standards.

Required Skills:
Qualifications & Requirements: Education & Experience: BSc/MSc in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in civil/structural engineering and project management. Proven track record managing reinforced concrete reservoir or water-retaining structure projects. Mandatory experience handling donor-funded NGO-sponsored or government infrastructure projects. Professional Certification (Compulsory): Registered with COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) Mandatory. Active member of NSE (Nigerian Society of Engineers) Mandatory. PMP PRINCE2 or other project management certification is an added advantage. Technical Competencies: Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete design and construction. Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project Primavera). Familiarity with structural design software (ETABS SAFE AutoCAD). Solid understanding of Nigerian building regulations and international standards for water-retaining structures. Personal Attributes: Strong leadership and decision-making skills. Willingness to travel extensively within Nigeria.
