Job Summary

Salary range for this position: Thefull-time annual salary range for this role is $70000 - $85000. The salarywill be prorated for the three days (3) per week part-time status of this role.

The Position:

The part-time Archivist is responsible for theacquisition preservation organization and accessibility of Havergalshistorical records and archives. This position plays a critical role insafeguarding the schools heritage supporting research and educationalinitiatives and promoting the understanding of our institutional history andbringing the stories of Old Girls/Alums to life for students staff and thewider community. This role reports intoAdvancement to ensure our historical narrative remains central to our communityengagement and philanthropic goals.

Specific Accountabilities:

Collection Management

  • Developand maintain the schools archival collection including documentsphotographs artifacts and digital records.
  • Assessand acquire new materials relevant to the schools history and mission.
  • Establishand uphold archival policies and procedures to guide collection managementaccess and preservation.
  • Staycurrent with archival standards and best practices.

Preservation

  • Implementpreservation techniques to ensure the longevity of physical and digitalrecords.
  • Monitorenvironmental conditions and implement measures to protect archival materialsfrom damage and ensure proper storage conditions.

Organization and Cataloging

  • Classifyand catalog archival materials using appropriate standards and software.
  • Createand maintain finding aids to facilitate access to the collection.

Access and Reference Services

  • Assiststudents faculty and alumni in accessing archival materials for research andeducational purposes.
  • Conducttours and presentations to promote awareness of the archives.
  • Performgenealogical and historical research to verify legacy connections and schoolhistory for various departments.

Outreach and Education

  • Developand implement programs to educate the school community about the importance ofarchives and local history.
  • Collaboratewith teachers and departments to integrate archival resources into thecurriculum.
  • Collaboratewith different school departments to ensure valuable historical materials aretransferred to the archives.
  • Actas the primary respondent on archival research questions from the Havergalcommunity and the public.

Heritage and Curating

  • Activelypromote the heritage of the school by weaving historical narratives intocurrent school life and events.
  • Curateand develop new displays that promote the schools history and culture. Acreative approach to making history engaging for students and a passion forstorytelling
  • Helpthe school community connect with and understand its traditions values andidentity through historical narratives and objects.
  • SupportAdvancement and Old Girl/Alum events by providing archivalinformation/documents and preparing displays for these events.
  • Supportthe Admission department with requests regarding applicants parents createcomposite pictures for the Marguerites and memory boards for Marguerite events.

Digital Archiving

  • Managethe digitization of archival materials to enhance accessibility andpreservation.
  • Overseethe development and maintenance of an online archival database to ensure thepreservation of born-digital materials like emails websites and digitalphotographs.

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

  • Mastersdegree in Archival Studies Library Science History or a related field.
  • Minimumthree years experience in professional archival management includingpreservation techniques and digital archiving.
  • Experiencecataloguing and organizing a collection of different media types.
  • Strongcomputer experience (Google suite Word Excel) and analytical skills.
  • Experiencein using an archival database.
  • Strongorganizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills.
  • Abilityto work independently and collaboratively in a school environment.
  • Abilityto work and communicate with a variety of stakeholders within the schoolenvironment.
  • Experienceworking with volunteers.
  • Knowledgeof Canadian archival standards and practices is an asset.
  • Experiencein an educational setting is an asset.
