Infrastructure & Facilities Project Manager (Pr CPM) ( 24 Months Contract)

(24-MONTH PERFORMANCE BASED CONTRACT RENEWABLE FOR A FURTHER YEAR BASED ON PERFORMANCE)


The KwaZulu-Natal Museum is seeking an experienced Infrastructure & Facilities Project Manager (Pr CPM) to lead and deliver a large-scale project and provide other facilities management duties. The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end project management stakeholder coordination risk control and ensuring delivery within scope time budget and quality standards. This is a senior-level position requiring strong technical understanding financial management capability and demonstrated leadership in complex multi-stakeholder environments.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Project Planning & Delivery

  • Lead infrastructure projects across the full lifecycle: planning execution monitoring and close-out
  • Develop and manage project scope schedules budgets and resources
  • Coordinate consultants contractors and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ensure delivery within time cost and quality expectations

Financial & Contract Management

  • Manage project budgets with strong cost control and forecasting
  • Administer contracts (JBCC / NEC / GCC) and oversee supplier performance
  • Ensure compliance with procurement processes and financial governance frameworks

Risk Compliance & Quality

  • Identify assess and mitigate project risks and dependencies
  • Ensure compliance with South African legislation safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance processes

Facilities Management

  • Oversee maintenance and operational performance of buildings and infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with health safety and statutory requirements
  • Manage service providers and facilities-related contracts
  • Support space planning and operational efficiency

Handover & Closure (Strategic Function)

  • Oversee snag/punch lists and ensure all outstanding work is completed
  • Obtain all compliance and statutory certificates
  • Ensure effective project handover to operations
  • Confirm that all contractual deliverables are met before close-out

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Lead project meetings and ensure clear communication across all levels
  • Manage expectations across government contractors and consultants

Reporting & Governance

  • Prepare regular progress and performance reports
  • Maintain accurate project documentation
  • Support audits and governance processes


Requirements


  • Bachelors degree (NQF 7) in a built environment discipline such as:
    • Construction Management
    • Civil or Structural Engineering
    • Quantity Surveying
    • Construction-focused Project Management

Note: Only clearly aligned built-environment qualifications will be considered.

  • Mandatory:
    • Registration as a Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr CPM) with the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions

  • Experience:
    • 810 years post-qualification experience
    • Proven delivery of projects valued at R200 million R300 million
    • Experience in infrastructure construction or public sector environments

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in MS Project Primavera or similar tools
    • Strong knowledge of project management methodologies and South African regulatory frameworks


Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • A Masters degree will be advantageous; however candidates with an Honours degree and relevant experience will be considered
  • Experience in complex or regulated environments
  • Exposure to heritage or public infrastructure projects
  • Strong leadership capability including:
    • Team management and accountability
    • Conflict resolution and decision-making
    • Ability to lead in high-pressure environments

Required Skills:

Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree in Project Management Engineering Construction Management Quantity Surveying or related field. Professional certification: PMP PRINCE2 Practitioner PMA or equivalent (mandatory). 10 years project management experience with at least 5 years managing large-scale projects valued above R200 million up to completion. Demonstrated experience with government infrastructure construction or similar high-value capital projects. Strong knowledge of South African legislative frameworks procurement systems and industry standards. Proven leadership skills and ability to manage large multidisciplinary teams. Advanced proficiency in MS Project / Primavera / equivalent tools. Experience managing large heritage construction projects will serve as an added advantage. Preferred Qualifications & Experience Honours or Masters degree in a relevant field. Experience in mega-projects (R500m to multi-billion). Experience working in complex political social or regulated environments. Strong negotiation stakeholder management and contract administration skills. Competencies Strategic thinking and high-level decision-making. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Financial acumen and analytical skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage competing deadlines. High integrity professional ethics and problem-solving ability.
