Conservation Lands & Resources (CLR) is seeking a highly motivated Well Operator to work in our Wells and Water Systems program within the Range and Agricultural Lands Water and Special Projects (RAWS) Division. The Well Operator maintains water wells and associated systems on regulatory wells ranches and open space properties in Pima County to ensure the continuous supply of safe clean water and to comply with state and federal regulations. The wells and water systems program supports the entire CLR Department and in some cases also provides support for several additional Departments. This position will work in rugged and remote locations requiring flexible hours and the ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
The CLR Department manages over 260000 acres of County conservation lands including 13 active cattle ranches iconic natural resource parks such as Tucson Mountain Park Colossal Cave Mountain Park and Agua Caliente Park and a variety of open space properties. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in remote areas in extremes of heat humidity dust and cold; in areas with venomous reptiles and insects and cactus and in areas near the US-Mexico border.
The position of Well Operator requires a motivated employee to maintain and install well equipment including but not limited to pumps motors solar systems and plumbing equipment.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
Works in remote locations and harsh weather conditions while maintaining operational reliability and safety standards.
Lifts and transports heavy tools materials and supplies as required for field operations.
Properly uses and maintains safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
This position requires two certifications to be obtained within one year of employment.
ADEQ Water Distribution Certification Grade 1
Certified Pesticide Applicator Certification
Essential Functions:

Operates and maintains water wells pumps and disinfection equipment to ensure a safe and reliable water supply;
Fabricates constructs installs and repairs heavy-duty industrial equipment and machinery such as deep well pumps water booster pumps solar equipment and piping systems horizontal/vertical drive pumps and controllers;
Monitors water system performance collects water samples and performs tests to ensure compliance with water quality standards;
Adjusts chemical feed systems and operational settings to maintain required disinfection levels;
Conducts routine inspections of equipment pipelines and facility grounds to identify maintenance needs and safety hazards;
Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on water system equipment and related facilities;
Maintains detailed logs records and photo documentation of system operations testing results and maintenance activities;
Operates and maintains work vehicles and other motorized equipment used in field operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalency AND two years of experience in water utility construction or industrial maintenance.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)
OR:
One year with Pima County in a Utility Maintenance Wastewater Maintenance and/or Operations Parks or related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):
Minimum three (3) years experience in the operation and maintenance of remote waterdistribution systems on ranch and/or open space properties or a closely related field including metalfabrication installation and repair of industrial equipment including deep well pumps booster pumps solarsystems piping and pump controllers. Collections of water samples and conduct chlorine testing to ensurecompliance with water quality standards.
Minimum two (2) years experience in maintenance and repair of electrical systems plumbing chemical feedsystems and operational settings to maintain system reliability and safety standards. Transport and handleheavy tools materials and supplies required for fieldwork. Properly use and maintain safety equipment andPPE in accordance with safety protocols.
Minimum two (2) years experience conducting routine inspections of distribution equipment and facilities to identifymaintenance safety risk and compliance. Maintain detailed logs records and photo documentation ofsystem performance testing and maintenance.
Minimum one (1) year experience with computer systems and programs such as Word Excel Adobe PDFsOutlook or other email systems. Google Maps and Global Information Systems (GIS) mapping systems.
Experience with off highway vehicles such as navigating rough terrain in 4x4 trucks and/or UTVs/ATVs inremote areas.

Some positions may require Arizona certification as an herbicide/pesticide applicator or backflow device inspector/repair person or installer etc. at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Failure to obtain/maintain the required licensure and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
