Job Summary

Job Title: ESL Teacher/Multilingual Specialist

Reports to: Campus Principal

Dept.: Assigned Campus

Exemption Status: Exempt/Professional

Pay Scale:Teacher

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Support the instructional needs of English Learners (EL) and any campus

staff who works with ELs. Responsible for all necessary reports documents training and

processes according to the LPAC manual for identification placement monitoring and reclassification of

ELs. Serve as an advocate for EL students in all capacities in the school district and community.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors Degree from accredited University
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • ESL Certification required for all Elementary (K-5) positions
  • ESL Certification required for ELA and Special Education (6-12)
  • ESL Certification preferred for all other content areas

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual students.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
  • Assess & differentiate as needed for all students (including special education 504 Gifted & Talented and Emergent Bilingual students).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the district and any special programs.
  • Create a classroom environment conductive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents students colleagues and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state district and school regulations and policies are classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary reports and documents for required LPAC meetings.
  • Follow required processes according to the LPAC manual for the identificationplacement reclassification and review of all students in the Bilingual/ESL programswithin PEIMS and district timelines.
  • Collaborate with the PEIMS clerk to assure accurate coding of Bilingual/ ESL students.
  • Meet with LPAC Administrator and members regularly presenting to the LPAC members the complete LPAC forms for their review and decision.
  • Record data on LPAC documentation platform in order to determine which students will enter re-enter remain or exit from the Bilingual/ESL program and ensure coding is correct for PEIMS and student information systems.
  • Utilize the district LPAC documentation platform to track students progress and pull reports that may be used in the decision-making process.
  • Administer the approved language assessment for identification purposes.
  • Administer the norm-referenced test used for reclassification purposes for students when needed.
  • Keep close contact with all Bilingual/ESL teachers and makes available to them all LPACand assessment information of English Learners (EL).
  • Collaborate with Campus LPAC Administrator Testing Coordinator and the Bilingual/ESL Department to ensure accurate student data for all decision making processes.
  • Collaborate with campus administration campus testing coordinator and district Coordinator for ELs to ensure that EL students are administered TELPAS as per state requirements.
  • Collaborate with campus LPAC administrator campus testing coordinator and district Coordinator for ELs to ensure that EL student STAAR designations are complete recorded in student assessment platforms and LPAC documentation platform.
  • Responsible for completing ELL Student Follow-Up Forms and reporting former ELL (Monitor Year 1 Monitor Year 2 etc.) students progress to LPAC members as well as monitor ELs 6/9-weeks grading period failure report.
  • Ensure LPAC meetings are scheduled to address ELL students failure and intervention plans.
  • Participate in meetings staff development and special events as directed by district Director for Academic Programs district and campus administrators.
  • Assist with events organized by the campus and/or district for EL students and their families.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and the parents of EL students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
