The Reynoldsburg City Schools Educational Paraprofessional is responsible for providing instructional behavioral and administrative support to teachers and students. This role assists in the delivery of the educational program ensuring a safe and productive environment that fosters academic achievement and social-emotional growth for all students including those with diverse learning needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid State of Ohio Educational Aide Permit.
- A valid ESEA (Highly Qualified) credential is required for all positions within Title I Elementary buildings (requires Associate Degree 48 semester hours or a passing score of 456 on the ParaPro Assessment).
- Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks.
- Experience working with children in an educational or organized recreational setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans.
- Training in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or crisis intervention (e.g. CPI).
- Familiarity with Ohios Learning Standards and grade-level proficiency requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties responsibilities skills abilities and other characteristics. Instructional Support Responsibilities
- Reinforce learning of academic content standards in small groups or one-on-one settings as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Assist in the administration and proctoring of grade-level proficiency tests and classroom assessments.
- Support students in the use of educational technology and specialized learning software.
- Read aloud to students and assist with oral examinations or scribe duties for students with accommodations.
Student Supervision and Behavioral Responsibilities
- Maintain classroom discipline and order in accordance with school policies and PBIS frameworks.
- Monitor students in non-classroom settings including hallways cafeteria playground and bus loading zones.
- Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and handle behavioral situations in a calm professional manner.
- Foster an inclusive environment by supporting students with various physical emotional and intellectual needs.
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records including student progress logs attendance and behavioral reports.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials bulletin boards and classroom displays.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and sensitive information in compliance with FERPA.
- Participate in required professional development and staff meetings as assigned by the Principal.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
English grammar spelling and punctuation; basic mathematics; Ohio Department of Education (ODE) standards for Educational Aides; basic child development principles.
Skilled in:
Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook); operating standard office and classroom equipment; effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to:
Exercise tact and discretion with students parents and staff; follow complex oral and written instructions; adapt to changing classroom needs; maintain a positive rapport with a diverse student population.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push pull lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion. The employee must be able to bend stoop and reach to assist students or manage classroom materials.
Working Conditions The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children or students experiencing behavioral crises.
Driving Requirement This position may require driving between district buildings or for authorized school activities.
