Job Summary

POSITION TITLE: Instructional Coach for Health Assisting CTE Program



The Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers (EMK) seeks a dynamic highly skilled Instructional Coach for the Health Assisting Career & Technical Education (CTE) programming. This role is critical in strengthening instructional practice ensuring high-quality clinical and classroom experiences and advancing student outcomes aligned to college and career readiness in healthcare fields.



Additionally over the next five years Kennedy Academy will double in size introduce new health career pathways and expand its college course offerings and work-based learning opportunities. These will lead our graduates toward access to good-paying careers at Mass General Brigham. These changes result from a transformative $38 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies marking the largest philanthropic investment in BPSs history.

REPORTS TO: Head of School or Designee

Building upon EMKs mission of high expectations equity and access this position will provide targeted coaching to Health Assisting teachers and Health Careers Staff Assistants ensuring alignment with Chapter 74 standards industry expectations and EMKs Accountability Plan. Works alongside EMK Executive Director of Career and Technical Education

Instructional Coaching (Health Assisting Focus)

  • Provide job-embedded coaching to Health Assisting teachers through:
    • Classroom and lab observations
    • Feedback cycles
    • Co-planning and co-teaching
  • Support implementation of:
    • CNA and MA competencies
    • Clinical skills instruction
    • Safety compliance and patient care protocols
  • Model effective instruction in:
    • Skills-based teaching
    • Simulation-based learning
    • Differentiated instruction for diverse learners

Coaching & Supervision of Health Careers Staff Assistants

  • Coach and support Health Careers Staff Assistants in:
    • Supporting clinical labs and simulations
    • Reinforcing instructional goals during hands-on learning
    • Maintaining safe and organized clinical environments
  • Clarify roles and expectations to ensure:
    • Alignment with instructional priorities
    • Consistent student support across classrooms and lab settings
  • Provide ongoing feedback and professional growth support

Professional Development

  • Design and facilitate targeted PD for Health Assisting and CTE staff including:
    • Clinical instruction best practices
    • Culturally responsive teaching in healthcare settings
    • Student engagement in hands-on learning environments
  • Collaborate with EMK Executive Director of Career and Technical Education to align PD with:
    • Chapter 74 requirements
    • Industry standards
    • EMK CARES competencies

Curriculum & Program Development

  • Support the development and refinement of:
    • Health Assisting curriculum
    • Clinical lab experiences
    • Work-based learning alignment
  • Ensure curriculum reflects:
    • State frameworks
    • Certification requirements (e.g. CNA)
    • Partnerships (e.g. Mass General Brigham clinical sites)

Data Analysis & Instructional Improvement

  • Analyze:
    • Student performance data (academic clinical)
    • Certification outcomes (CNA pass rates)
    • Attendance and engagement in CTE courses
  • Support teachers in using data to:
    • Adjust instruction
    • Target skill gaps
    • Improve program outcomes

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner with:
    • CTE Director / Health & Wellness Department Chair
    • Instructional Leadership Team (ILT)
    • Student Support Team (SST)
  • Serve as a liaison between:
    • EMK and healthcare partners
    • EMK and district CTE leadership
  • Support cross-campus alignment (Lower & Upper Campus)

Clinical Program Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure Health Assisting program fidelity to:
    • Chapter 74 standards
    • Safety and compliance regulations
  • Support readiness for:
    • Clinical placements
    • Site visits and audits
  • Reinforce professional norms expected in healthcare environments

Expectations

  • Attend Superintendent BPS August Institute
  • Attend a week-long EMK professional development
  • Commit to weekly Professional Development meetings from 2:00pm-4:00pm
  • Commit to weekly meetings with the EMK Admin Team.
  • And other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifications - Required

  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Health Assisting or Science.
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise as a teacher of relevant content and/or subjects.
  • Demonstrated success working with teachers and administrators as a professionaldevelopment provider team leader and/or facilitator.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have suchauthorization by their first day of employment.

Qualification - Preferred

  • Healthcare STEM background and education
  • Hold an SEI endorsement or a dual certification in ESL.
  • Experience working in an urban setting.
  • Special education license experience and/or expertise.
  • BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom school and district culture and diversity.
  • BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS official languages: Spanish Creole (Cape Verdean) Creole (Haitian) Chinese Vietnamese Portuguese & Somali.
  • In order to best serve all students BPS prefers all core content teachers to be certified intheir subject area and one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).

Terms:BTU Group I plus additional compensation equal to 10% of the individuals annual base salary.

The start and end times of BPS schools vary as do the lengths of the school day. EMK has a longer school day through the Schedule A Expanded Learning Time (ELT) Agreement. The employee will be required to adhere to the work conditions including calendar schedule and flexibility established by the School. Common planning time program department and committee meetings and professional development occur on Mondays generally between 2pm- 4pm.
