Position: Sociology Expert Community Safety & Survey Lead (Anticipated Position)

Background:
Navanti is looking for a Sociology Expert Community Safety & Survey Lead to work with our multidisciplinary team who can lead public security and impact evaluations focusing on police-related community safety outcomes and perceptions. Candidates are expected to have theoretical and experiential knowledge of quantitative research methods survey design International Crime Victimization Survey (ICVS) approaches to community perceptions and ethical and conflict-sensitive data collection. Candidates are preferred to have knowledge of Somalia (or other fragile/conflict-affected contexts) with respect to supporting security sector and/or public institutions on organisational reform control systems or performance frameworks. The candidate will design and implement community perceptions surveys compile and interpret data for public security indicators oversee enumerator training including safeguarding and informed consent and draft analytical reports of findings.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrate competence in quantitative and/or mixed-method research including survey design sampling field protocols and analysis
- Strong understanding of ethics safeguarding and do no harm in data collection in fragile settings.
- Strong reporting skills and ICT competence for data management (e.g. digital data collection tools spreadsheets/databases).
- Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in community safety research criminology policing perceptions/trust studies violence prevention or applied social research
- Proven experience delivering at least two assignments involving community surveys and/or perception studies related to safety crime victimisation policing or justice services
- Experience implementing research in hard-to-access or fragile environments (Somalia and/or comparable contexts) minimum one such project
- Demonstrated ability to translate social research findings into practical policing-relevant recommendations minimum two reports/ works of research
Education:
University degree in sociology criminology social sciences anthropology statistics or a related discipline. A Masters degree or higher is preferred.
Language:
- Full professional proficiency in oral and written English
- Knowledge of Somali is an advantage
