Tech Lead Senior Backend Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer to join our Colombo office and take a leading role in building the intelligence layer of our AI-native risk and compliance platform. You will own critical backend systems end-to-end mentor junior engineers and contribute to architectural decisions that shape how we deliver transformative RegTech solutions to financial institutions worldwide.

WHAT YOULL DO

• Design build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power our AI-driven risk and compliance platform
• Lead the architecture and implementation of RAG pipelines LLM integrations and AI workflows within the backend intelligence layer
• Work with Neo4j and graph data models to represent complex risk relationships and regulatory structures
• Define and enforce backend engineering best practices code quality standards and review processes across the team
• Collaborate closely with product engineering and risk domain experts to translate compliance requirements into robust technical solutions
• Own delivery end to end from design and implementation through testing deployment and monitoring on AWS
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews pairing sessions and technical guidance
• Contribute to strategic technical discussions and help shape the teams roadmap for AI and backend capabilities
• Stay current with developments in AI LLMs and graph technologies and identify opportunities to apply them in our product

WHO WERE LOOKING FOR

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering Information Technology or a closely related technical discipline or professional certifications in cloud AI or security (e.g. AWS Certified Developer Google Professional ML Engineer Neo4j Certified Professional)
• 5 years of hands-on backend engineering experience with a strong command of Python and RESTful or GraphQL API design
• Proven experience building and integrating AI or ML components including LLMs vector search or RAG architectures into production systems
• Solid understanding of graph databases ideally Neo4j and comfort modelling complex domain relationships
• Experience deploying and operating backend services on AWS (Lambda ECS RDS S3 or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to lead technically whether through architecture decisions code reviews or cross-functional collaboration
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders clearly
• A structured approach to problem-solving with high attention to detail and a bias for clean maintainable code
• Comfort working in ambiguous evolving environments where requirements are shaped collaboratively
