Job Summary

Position Summary
INTERNAL ONLY : Internal posting for permanent time-limited and layoff priority employees of UNC -Chapel Hill only. The Research Core Business Officer serves as a critical administrative and financial resource for the College of Arts & Sciences research core facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring the operational and financial sustainability of multiple core facilities that provide essential services to faculty researchers and external partners. The Business Officer will oversee all aspects of financial management including billing expense monitoring revenue tracking and subsidy allocation while ensuring compliance with university policies and external funding this role the Business Officer will act as the primary liaison between core facility directors college leadership and administrative offices to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Responsibilities include managing billing systems assisting users with account setup and ensuring timely invoicing and collections. The position will also coordinate contract negotiations and renewals including industry agreements MOUs and external service contracts to maintain uninterrupted operations. Beyond financial oversight the Business Officer will support strategic decision-making by providing detailed monthly financial reports analyzing performance metrics and identifying opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth. This position will assist with procurement and equipment replacement planning troubleshoot system errors and manage HR-related actions tied to effort and subsidy usage. Additionally the Business Officer will track publications resulting from core facility usage and compile reporting data for federal grants to support compliance and research impact documentation. The Business Officer will also manage and coordinate the bi-annual rate review process for all core facilities in collaboration with Core Directors and senior leadership ensuring compliance with institutional and federal guidelines.

Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Mid- to late-career Bachelors and 3-5 yrs experience or with Masters and 2- 4 yrs experience; Experience in financial analysis contract management and administrative operations. Strong organizational communication and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in iLab and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Familiarity with research environments and compliance requirements for federal grants. Experience with UNC financial systems and policies preferred but not required.
