Job Summary

SUMMARY: The Behavior Interventionist support staff and assist students by developing a behavior plan to achieve improved academic social emotional and behavioral goals. This position collaborates with various groups providing monitoring and training using behavior management techniques intervention strategies coping skills and problem solving for behavioral challenges.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist program staff in providing a positive structured and therapeutic environment in which the emotional development and educational needs of the children can be met.
  • Participate in 1:1 intervention as necessary to encourage the childrens compliance with behavior expectations.
  • Utilize functional behavioral analysis to identify issues that impede the childs successful social and emotional behavior and aid with the implementation of the behavioral plan.
  • Provide immediate crisis interventions as necessary.
  • Work with the team to implement behavioral programs and intervention plans and provide input into daily level rating forms.
  • Participate in all appropriate meetings collaborating with district behavioral specialists licensed counselors program staff and family as appropriate.
  • Ensure that all paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of positive collaborative relationships with school district personnel and other public or private agencies to provide an essential level of care for children
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA regulations and assist in maintaining a safe and caring school environment.
  • Work with teachers to identify specific problem behaviors in children requiring intervention.
  • Facilitate communication between the home and school concerning behavioral issues seeking to engage more parents in the educational process of their children.
  • Develop appropriate behavior modification plans.
  • Provide technical assistance to teachers regarding disciplinary documentation intervention and other disciplinary issues for children.
  • Provide social skills training for children and social emotional learning supports.
  • Provide on-going support for students who are suspended or returning from expulsion.
  • Function as part of the schools MTSS team IEP team and serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary pupil appraisal team when behavioral issues are a concern.
  • Assist school personnel on behavior intervention techniques and/or other issues relative to behavior management.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and community agencies through reverse referral arrangements collaboration on cases and assistance to families in obtaining and utilizing local resources.
  • Conduct bullying investigations when requested by the principal and assess threats as needed in conjunction with school personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors degree preferred in counseling social work psychology or other related equivalent fields as well as experience in an area related to behavior and education such as counseling psychology or behavior management.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two (2) years experience in special education elementary classrooms or extensive work with students with behavior and/or emotional problems.
  2. Mississippi licensure in counseling or social work
  3. Masters degree preferred
  4. Awareness of cognitive/behavioral therapy
