Job Summary

Primary Purpose:

Supports campus Language Proficiency Assessment Committees (LPAC) to ensure appropriate identification instruction and language acceleration for English Learners.

Education / Certification:

  1. Bachelors degree from an accredited University.
  2. Bilingual certification preferred.
  3. Texas teacher certification.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  1. Demonstrated organizational and communication skills both written and oral.
  2. Extensive knowledge of language acquisition practices standards-based curriculum and instructional practices TEKS ELPS STAAR and TELPAS.
  3. Extensive knowledge of District initiatives.
  4. Strong presentation skills and experience in developing and presenting professional development sessions.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others.

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Three years of experience as a classroom teacher of English learners.
  2. Experience with technology applications.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

  1. Support campuses with LPAC compliance per TEA guidance and instructional best-practices.
  2. Collaborates with district and campus staff to address compliance and instructional needs specific to English Learners and support the implementation of bilingual and ESL state and district assessment and data collection.
  3. Monitors district and campus Bilingual and ESL program data.
  4. Collaborates with district staff to prepare and conduct TELPAS audit.
  5. Collaborates with district staff to ensure proper coding of students in Bilingual and ESL program conducting ongoing campus audits.
  6. Coordinates Spanish language proficiency assessments to monitor progress.
  7. Coordinates and supports implementation of the District instructional program.
  8. Attends appropriate professional meetings and workshops to maintain proficiency and to acquire new ideas for instructional improvement. Informs administration of the effects of current and impending legislation.
  9. Provides staff and parents with the latest developments and information related to LPAC and second language acquisition theory.
  10. Carefully analyzes student performance data and plans according to identified student needs.

Professional Development

  1. Organizes and supports staff development for LPAC and ESL Academy.
  2. Designs supports and implements staff development programs consistent with the District and national standards for professional staff development for teachers of language learners and supportive of content and performance standards.

Other

  1. Responsible for properly maintaining district records adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  2. Performs other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
