TITLE: High School Librarian (Library Teacher) Permanent Full Time Position
QUALIFICATIONS:
Massachusetts Certification - Library Teacher
Masters Degree in Library Information Science
Prior Library Experience
REPORTS TO: Principal of Barnstable High School
PRIMARY JOB DESCRIPTION: The high school librarian will supervise and manage the school library. S/he will provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating evaluating synthesizing and using information. The librarian will serve as teacher materials expert and curriculum advisor to ensure that the library is involved in the instructional programs of the school.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE:
Effectively plan and manage the school library program to meet identified needs including: maintaining the facility and a library environment conducive to learning; writing and updating a strategic plan and meeting annual goals; developing and enforcing policies that comply with federal and state laws and local school committee policy; writing an annual report that evaluates program effectiveness; preparing and monitoring the budget; training and supervising the library assistant and volunteer workers
Maintain and develop the print and electronic library collection including the library website in accordance with the librarys Collection Development and Selection Policy to support school curricula and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks including purchasing acquisition processing cataloging organizing weeding and inventory procedures.
Implement and update the information literacy curriculum assist in the preparation of curriculum guides/maps and have knowledge of all school curricula.
Provide individual and group instruction/training to students and teachers in the location and use of resources and the integration of information and research skills and academic assignments.
Collaborate with teachers to design implement and evaluate instructional lessons that engage students in information retrieval independent reading research and the use of technology.
Serve as Department Head and attend weekly meetings.
HOURS/WORK YEAR
Comparable to the teachers day and year as per teachers contract
