Job Summary
Are you looking to join an award-winning organization with a culture built on innovation and public service The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dallas-Fort Worth region which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States.
The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking Interns to assist with the implementation of strategies to support the transition to alternative fuel vehicles including supporting the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles and implementing associated infrastructure. A successful candidate should have an interest in reducing the air quality impacts of transportation using alternative fuel vehicles with emphasis on zero-emission vehicles (i.e. battery-electric or hydrogen fuel cell). This position will support work of the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition (). Work is highly collaborative working not only within the NCTCOG staff but with external stakeholders including local government staff fleets citizen groups associations and industry representatives. Ideal candidates should attend school in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and be able to work at least 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Drafting for supervisor review social media and e-blast content on electric vehicle and alternative fuel vehicle topics
- Assisting supervisor with the review maintenance and drafting of NCTCOGs air quality and Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities websites
- Assisting with educational event planning and coordination including webinars and public meetings
- Assisting with outreach to local governments and the public regarding federal and State funding opportunities
- Assisting with the planning of and attending outreach events and meetings to inform stakeholders and the public of project information
- Working with supervisor to implement alternative fuel infrastructure projects
- Assisting with data collection organization and analysis
Required Skills
- Good communication both verbal and written and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to and follow instructions coordinate with team members and present ideas
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word Outlook PowerPoint and Excel desired
- Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skillsdesired
- Good mathematical skills desired
- Detail oriented highly organized with an ability to handle multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline driven environment without diminishing the quality of work
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to dynamic priorities in a fast-paced work environment
Required Education and Experience
- Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
- No work experience required
- At least one year of school-related experience
Starting Salary
Minimum of $17.10 per hour
The North Central Texas Council of Governments is a voluntary association of by and for local governments and was established to assist local governments in planning for common needs cooperating for mutual benefit and coordinating for sound regional development. NCTCOGs purpose is to strengthen both the individual and collective power of local governments and to help them recognize regional opportunities eliminate unnecessary duplication and make joint decisions. Since 1974 NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin Dallas Denton Ellis Hood Hunt Johnson Kaufman Parker Rockwall Tarrant and Wise. NCTCOG also serves as a designated recipient for Federal Transit Administration funds.
