Job Summary

Position: ELL Teacher

Department/Location: Nashoba Regional School District

Pay: In accordance with CBA scale

Organizational Scope: Reporting directly to the building principal and working under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement with the Nashoba Regional Education Association Unit A the Teacher advances the NRSD mission of inspiring and challenging all learners to realize their unique potential and to become active contributors to their community.

Through a lens of equity and as appropriate for the grade level of students teachers integrate social emotional learning into the curriculum and engage in culturally responsive teaching.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates the ability to work with multilingual learners.
  2. Oversees the initial identification parent notification annual assessment and reclassification processes for English Learners in accordance with Massachusetts DESE guidelines.
  3. Coordinates and administers the annual ACCESS for ELLs assessment and initial English language proficiency screenings.
  4. Develops implements and consistently monitors goals and objectives for students in accordance with the WIDA ELD Standards Frameworks.
  5. Fulfills state and federal data reporting requirements regarding student progress and reclassification (moving students out of ELL status).
  6. Consults with SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) classroom teachers to help them differentiate content and scaffold instruction for English learners.
  7. Communicates regularly with parents of students in order to assist in the development of language acquisition in the home and to ensure student success.
  8. Maintains accurate up-to-date physical and digital records (ELL folders) for all active and monitored English learners.
  9. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  10. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
  11. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  12. Prepares for classes assigned.
  13. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom;
  14. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students;
  15. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
  16. Implements by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  17. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required; Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students resolve health attitude and learning issues;
  18. Creates an effective age-appropriate environment for learning through functional and engaging displays bulletin boards and interest centers;
  19. Seeks the assistance of district specialists as required regarding diagnosing students learning disabilities.
  20. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  21. Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation;Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports;
  22. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; In the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in a fair and just manner;
  23. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so;
  24. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program;
  25. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants if applicable and cooperatively with department heads provides input relative to their effectiveness; and
  26. Continues with personal professional development. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  27. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  28. The omission of specific duties here does not exclude them from the positions responsibilities if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.

Job Qualifications & Physical Demands:

  1. Holds a valid Massachusetts DESE License in English as a Second Language; certified in ESL/ELL; Multilingual skills and background in reading instruction preferred.
  2. Must have extensive knowledge of second language learning and sheltering content as well as familiarity with the English Language Proficiency Benchmarks and Outcomes Document Massachusetts standards-based curriculum and standard and alternative methods of assessment.
  3. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess a high level of capability with technology.
  4. Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property assist the principal in fire and other emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy
  5. The ability to work onsite in district schools and buildings is an essential function of this job.

Salary in accordance with the Unit A Salary Scale The minimum and maximum salary is based on the Bachelors level scale. Candidate review begins immediately.
