SUMMARY:Senior Marine Instructor (SMI) services as the manager of the Marine Corps JROTC (MCJROTC program at their assigned school. As a member of the schools faculty the SMI fulfills responsibilities comparable to those of department heads. The SMI is responsible for the conduct of academic and extracurricular instruction and training of cadets enrolled in ROTC. Responsible to the principal for accurate completion of all records and reports required by the high school and district.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership supervision and oversight of all aspects of the MCJROTC program.
  • Plan organize and execute MCJROTC instruction ensuring compliance with Marine Corps and school district policies.
  • Maintain program standards and monitor performance of all instructors and cadets.
  • Distribute and supervise instructional responsibilities in collaboration with the Marine Instructor (MI).
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the school parents community and Marine Corps authorities.
  • Actively engage with school administrators faculty parents and community stakeholders to promote and strengthen the program.
  • Develop implement and oversee curricular and extracurricular activities including drill competitions community service projects and cadet leadership events.
  • Ensure safety accountability and professional conduct within all program activities.
  • Mentor cadets and instructors fostering leadership discipline teamwork and character development.
  • Represent the MCJROTC program positively within the school and local community.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must hold a current Marine Corps JROTC Instructor Certification at the time of application.
  • Must meet all eligibility requirements established by Marine Corps JROtC and the employing school district.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate and meets highly qualified requirements

  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Be a retired U.S. Marine Non-Commissioned Officer.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Writing general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Adding subtracting multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  • Principles and practices of program administration.
  • Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
  • Best practices trends and emerging technologies.
  • Principles and techniques of effective oral presentations.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.

SKILL IN:

  • Applying reason to research and solving moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Interpreting an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Performing basic original research to assist with developing teaching plans and instructional materials.
  • Maintaining and updating documentation.
  • Organizing and maintaining records files and program information.
  • Gathering data analyzing findings and applying logic and reason.
  • Authoring and preparing original reports documents and presentations.
  • Researching industry trends solutions and best practices.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisors the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class require: stooping crouching reaching standing walking fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
