Senior Mainframe Application Analyst
Job Summary
About the Role
The West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mainframe Application Analyst to join our team on a temporary contract this critical role you will support legacy mainframe systems essential to WVDOTs operations. You will lead complex analysis design and development efforts while collaborating with project managers business analysts database administrators and policy staff.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the analysis design and development of mainframe applications using COBOL CICS and JCL.
Work with relational databases to support data integrity performance and reporting needs.
Serve as a senior/lead analyst guiding technical direction and mentoring other analysts as needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholdersincluding business policy staff and technical teamsto translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Troubleshoot and optimize existing mainframe applications to ensure high availability and performance for WVDOT systems.
Produce clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Education (one of the following):
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution OR
Minimum of five (5) years of equivalent work experience as a direct substitution for the Bachelors degree
Mainframe Development Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of mainframe application development experience using COBOL CICS and JCL
Relational Database Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of relational database experience
Analysis & Design Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of analysis and design experience
Leadership / Senior Role Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a lead analyst or in a senior analyst role
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal communication skills to interact with diverse stakeholdersExcellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with project managers business analysts DBAs application analysts and business policy staff.
Preferred Skills (Not Required but a Plus)
Experience in transportation or government IT environments.
Familiarity with change management and documentation standards in a public sector setting
Required Skills:
4.1.1.1 Senior Mainframe Application Analyst must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution or a minimum of five (5) years of equivalent work experience as a substitution for the Bachelors Degree. 4.1.1.2 Senior Mainframe Application Analyst must have a minimum of five (5) years of Mainframe Application development experience using COBOL CICS and JCL. 4.1.1.3 Senior Mainframe Application Analyst must have a minimum of five (5) years of Relational Database experience. 4.1.1.4 Senior Mainframe Application Analyst must have a minimum of five (5) years of Analysis and Design experience. 4.1.1.5 Senior Mainframe Application Analyst must have a minimum ofthree (3) years of experience as a lead analyst or in a senior analyst role. 4.1.1.6 Senior Mainframe Application Analyst should have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) to communicate with various stakeholders including but not limited to project managers business analysts database administrators and application analysts as well as business policy staff and workers.
