Job Summary

Reporting to:Digital Media Manager

Supporting:ELM and the ELM Action Fund

Compensation:$18/hour


The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) and the ELM Action Fund (ELM AF) are committed to advocating for policy and building political power in Massachusetts to meet the scale and urgency of our environmental challenges.


ELM seeks a student fellow withstrong communication social media and design skillsan attentionto detail and an interest in building a career in environmental and/or nonprofit communications.This role will play a critical part in launching and growing the ELM Action Funds Instagram helping toestablisha strong visual and storytelling presencefrom the ground up.

The Communications Fellowship will run from early June through mid-November with flexible start and end dates.Applications are due by April 24 2026.


This position will report to Bianca Pokrzywa Digital Media Manager and be a part of the Communications Team led by Leigh Chandler Communications Director.Additionaltasks may be assigned by other staff members related to events development partnerships data management and more.


Tasks

Social Media

  • Assistwith creating social media captions for posts on LinkedInBlueskyand Facebook
  • Playamajorroleinsupporting the launch and managementofELM Action Funds Instagram account including developing content strategies to grow followers and engagement from the ground up
  • Create schedule and publish Instagram content including posts Stories and Reels
  • Capture and edit short-form video content for Instagram Reels including filming at events and in-office as needed
  • Assistin writing scripts and storyboarding for Instagram video content
  • Track and analyze Instagramperformance metrics including follower growth and engagement and support the development of strategies to expand reach


Communications

  • Research and incorporatenew trendsin marketing and design innovation such as expanding our SEO/Google Ads use tracking trending industry practices and more
  • Assistwith expanding ELM and the ELM Action Funds audience segmentation including identifying key words and behaviors for targeted Google Ads
  • Assistwith writing projectsas needed:event descriptionsreportspress releases digital advertising taglines and mass email language


Graphic Design

  • Design flyers graphics and videos for social media website and event invitations (using Canva)
  • Assistinmaintainingtheup-to-date content and designof ourWordpresswebsites (ELM ELM Action Fund Green Voter Guide andNetZeroMA) and update websites periodically
  • Design advocacy forms inEveryActionand create new mass email templates
  • Review design materials from staff members outside the Communications Team to ensure ELMs brand is consistent across the organization


Data Management

  • Update/track data in ourEveryActionemail marketing system (duplicate management supporter count sign-up details)
  • Track the growth of follower counts across social media platforms with a particular focus on building the ELM Action Funds Instagram audience
  • Collect data and report on social media emailandwebsite analytics


Other

  • Attend ELM events as needed and support eventlogistics including capturing photo and video content for social media
  • Support elections work as needed (phone banking canvassing)

Preferred Skills

Competitive candidates will have strong writing and design skills andkeenattention to detail. Experience with Canva social media management and video capturing/editing is.Experience with mass email platforms is strongly preferred.


Candidates should havedemonstratedexperience with Instagram management including creating Reels Stories and in-feed posts and should be able to show examples of growing anaccountsfollowers or engagement especially fromearly stages.


While environmental experience is not we do seek someone compelled by ELMs purpose to secure the health and wellbeing of the environment and of future generations.

Terms

$18/hour

This role requires15-20hours per week with occasional weeks requiringmore or less hours. Thefellowship will runapproximately fromearly Juneto mid-November2026.


Location

Candidate must bea Massachusetts resident. This position can mostlyoperateremotely with the requirement to attend events andphoto/video opsas needed which may fall outside of regular 9-5 work hours.We strongly encourage fellows in the Boston area to work in the ELM office at least onceperweek.
