Neighbourhood community programs bring diverse communities together in Kitchener Waterloo to improve community life and reduce poverty isolation and food insecurity. We are hiring for a Supervisor position for the Neighbourhoods program. The Supervisor will possess skills and utilize their passion for coaching and supporting staff students and volunteers supporting the daily operation of programs and for providing guidance on program design based on the needs of the community in neighbourhoods across the Region.
This is a contract position from approximately May 1 2026to May 5 2027. This is a full-time position offering 37.5 hours per week. Schedule is generally Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm with some evening hours required. Valid G class drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle required for travel throughout Waterloo Region. Successful completion of a Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector) required pre-employment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead develop and support the team members working within assigned programs including staff volunteers and students
Responsible for health and safety within each program; ensuring a physically and psychologically healthy work environment for all team members
Responsible for scheduling and the allocation of staff students and volunteers based on the needs of each program and/or site
Maintain communication carry out coaching provide regular check ins reviews and support for staff students and volunteers
Provide professional development opportunities for the growth of staff
Responsible for with guidance from the Manager of Operations program design and delivery of community-based programming that meets the needs of children youth adults and families in the community experiencing low income and food insecurity at multiple sites across the Region
Responsible for the day to day operations of the assigned programs including operational financial functions and budget coordination of data collection database management and staff/student/volunteer/participant safety
Support the Manager of Operations with creating reports and proposals to support or source funding by sharing program insights collecting registration and financial records and coordinating program data collection
Participate in working with partners in community consultation and community leadership development initiatives taking a lead role when appropriate
Work with program and site partners to deliver neighbourhood programs coordinate program space at community centres and partner sites
Play a key ambassadorial role with the community and with community partners helping to develop deepen and nurture robust partnerships with other non-profits municipal government funders and others
Work with Community Services management to evaluate programs and overall approach to serving neighbourhoods
With the Manager of Operations build and maintain solid and fruitful relationships with community partners and agencies to increase opportunities for innovation and positively impact outcomes
Represent House of Friendship at various community development and neighbourhood related meetings and community forums; bringing relevant issues and solutions to the conversation
Take a lead role in community consultation and community leadership development initiatives
Job Specific Knowledge/Skills:
Very strong leadership team building and decision making skills required including demonstrated strength in coaching and developing people and teams with at least 3 years previous experience leading a team
Experience working with student and volunteers considered an asset
Experience with coaching and mentoring for personal growth and development including the ability to coach others through conflict
Demonstrated skill in building and maintaining productive relationships (staff community partners funders)
Highly organized with ability to develop implement and streamline administrative processes
Knowledge of local community agencies and resources is an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to create and implement processes
Experience working with a budget and managing program expenses is an asset
Background in disciplines related to food security or nutrition would be considered a key asset
Education/Experience:
University degree or college diploma in related field of study and relevant work experience required
At least 3 years of experience working in the area of social work food security community development or related field with at least 1 year leading volunteers students or staff
Demonstrated approach to providing creative and effective food-related programs that build on community capacities and improve quality of life in local neighbourhoods
Critical Skills:

Exemplary emotional intelligence resilience communication conflict management and problem solving skills required
Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff participants and community members
Build solid and fruitful relationships with community partners and agencies to increase opportunities for innovation and positively impact outcomes
Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a positive work environment including the ability to navigate change in a positive and productive manner
Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural background income levels and sensitivity to their needs
Strong intercultural competency with the ability to recognize and respect cultural diversity able to be diplomatic and sensitive to the dynamics of a culturally diverse workplace
Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach in consultation program design evaluation processes and service delivery
Must be dependable professional flexible a team player and have a positive attitude
Respectful supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities addictions mental health and other life challenges
Excellent project timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics and planning and detailed record keeping
Able to model effective problem-solving by recognizing the human interpersonal and technical sides of a problem show flexibility and explore possible solutions in an innovative and creative way
Act as a change agent; contributing to continuous improvement and the successful implementation of change initiatives

Rate of Pay:
At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of grades and we base our payment structure on internal determining rate of pay a candidates past related experience will be taken into consideration.
Grade: 5 (Supervisor I)
Min: $27.86
Mid: $31.97
Max: $36.08
Working Conditions:
37.5 hours per week; generally daytime weekday hours
Occasional evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of the programs
Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
