We are seeking an intellectually curious and engaging History Teacher to join a collaborative Humanities faculty in Wigan. In a town with a profound industrial legacyfrom its coal mining roots to its role in the industrial revolutionthis school provides a rich local context for a specialist who can bring the past to life. We are looking for a teacher who can navigate the sweep of time from the medieval world to the global conflicts of the 20th century.


Core Responsibilities

  • Pedagogical Excellence: Planning and delivering high-quality enquiry-led lessons across KS3 & KS4 with potential opportunities to teach A-Level History.

  • Historical Enquiry: Developing students ability to evaluate primary and secondary sources fostering a sophisticated understanding of bias perspective and historical significance.

  • Discursive Leadership: Cultivating a classroom environment where students feel confident debating complex moral and political issues from the transatlantic slave trade to the rise of modern democracies.

  • Curriculum Innovation: Integrating local Wigan heritage into the broader national curriculum ensuring students understand their towns place within the wider British and global story.

  • Exam Mastery: Guiding GCSE cohorts through the AQA or Edexcel specifications focusing on structured essay writing and the command of chronological knowledge to secure outstanding results.

  • Literacy & Oracy: Supporting students in developing high-level extended writing skills and the ability to articulate complex historical arguments with precision.
