Senior Mechanical Engineer with active Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and the ability to independently stamp and seal engineering documents. This role supports engineering and design services for the U.S. Department of Energy Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
The selected candidate will serve as the responsible Engineer of Record for mechanical systems supporting mission-critical petroleum storage and transfer infrastructure in a highly regulated federal environment.
Significant experience in industrial mechanical systems is required. Experience in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) is highly desirable.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as Engineer of Record and stamp/seal mechanical design documents.
Lead design of mechanical systems including:
Pumping systems
Piping and fluid transfer systems
Tank and pipeline support systems
HVAC systems for industrial facilities
Equipment specifications and procurement packages
Perform hydraulic and mechanical calculations for petroleum and utility systems.
Ensure compliance with:
ASME codes
NFPA standards
UFC criteria
DOE Orders and federal standards
Develop technical specifications design narratives and construction documents.
Coordinate with civil structural electrical and process disciplines.
Support value engineering efforts and internal design quality reviews.
Provide construction phase support (RFIs submittals site visits commissioning support).
Participate in field investigations and system condition assessments.
Projects are primarily delivered using a Design-Bid-Build approach within a federal contracting framework.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Licensed in Louisiana and Texas or able to obtain reciprocity in both states
12 years of progressive mechanical design experience
Demonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record and stamping construction documents
Strong background in:
Industrial piping systems
Pump selection and hydraulic analysis
Pressure vessel and tank systems
HVAC systems for industrial or mission-critical facilities
Experience supporting federal clients (DOE USACE VA DOD preferred)
Familiarity with ASME NFPA and applicable federal codes
Ability to obtain and maintain required site access/security clearance
Highly Preferred Qualifications:
Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) licensure or significant FPE experience
Experience designing fire suppression systems (foam water-based special hazard systems)
Knowledge of NFPAand related standards
Experience in petroleum energy or industrial processing facilities
Construction phase engineering support experience
