What Youll Do

Support the Big Picture: Assist in delivering independent cost management across a diverse portfolio of projects supporting cost planning procurement and financial oversight from early design through construction and closeout.

Maintain Financial Control: Establish and maintain structured cost management processes ensuring accurate cost tracking forecasting and reporting to support informed decision-making and prevent budget drift.

Lead Cost Planning & Estimating: Prepare cost plans estimates and benchmarking analysis across all project stages ensuring alignment with client budgets and market conditions.

Manage Cost & Budget: Monitor project budgets track expenditures and validate contractor applications variations and change orders to ensure all costs are accurate justified and aligned with approved controls.

Facilitate Commercial Coordination: Act as a key liaison between clients consultants and contractors supporting commercial discussions procurement activities and contract administration to maintain alignment across all stakeholders.

Ensure Accuracy & Compliance: Conduct cost audits and reviews of contractor pricing ensuring all financial aspects of the project align with contract requirements industry standards and best practices.

Mitigate Cost Risk: Proactively identify cost risks and opportunities providing analysis and recommendations to manage financial exposure and maintain budget certainty throughout the project lifecycle.

Position Summary

Blue Stone Management is seeking an ambitious Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Sydney-based team. This role will support a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors providing client-side cost management and commercial oversight from early planning through design procurement and construction.

This position involves a combination of office-based and project-facing responsibilities delivering cost planning estimating and contract administration services to ensure strong financial control and successful project outcomes. You will work closely with clients consultants and contractors to manage budgets validate commercial decisions and maintain alignment with project objectives.

Responsibilities Include

  • Prepare cost plans estimates and quantity take-offs across concept design and construction phases
  • Analyze drawings specifications and market data to develop accurate pricing and cost benchmarks
  • Support procurement activities including tender documentation bid analysis and contractor selection
  • Administer contracts including review and validation of progress claims variations and change orders
  • Monitor project budgets and track expenditures against approved cost plans and forecasts
  • Identify cost risks and opportunities supporting value engineering and cost optimization initiatives
  • Prepare and contribute to cost reports financial forecasts and client presentations
  • Utilize CostX and other digital tools to support measurement estimating and reporting activities
  • Undertake site visits as required to assess progress validate quantities and support commercial oversight
  • Collaborate with project managers designers and contractors to ensure integrated and aligned project delivery

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Quantity Surveying Construction Management or a related field
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working in Australia as a client-side Quantity Surveyor (or equivalent experience for senior level candidates)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CostX
  • Accreditation with AIQS and/or RICS is preferred
  • Strong understanding of cost planning contract administration and commercial management principles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in client-facing environments
  • Self-motivated detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Experience across multiple sectors or complex project environments is advantageous
