Laboratory Information Systems Coordinator
Job Summary
Halton Healthcare is seeking an individual with an exceptional understanding of laboratory information systems and hematology instrumentation to lead optimization projects and quality management of the electronic flow of laboratory information. The Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Coordinator is accountable to support the development operation and maintenance of the Laboratory Information Systems. As a key member of both the Information Communications & Technology (ICT) team and the Laboratory Quality Management Team the LIS Coordinator will utilize their exceptional technical client-centered and project management skills to work collaboratively with Hospital Information Systems Digital Health teams other laboratory and ICT leaders physicians and staff internal and external to the organization to meet both laboratory and Halton Healthcarewide operational and strategic goals.
This is what youll be doing:
- Coordinate the development and operation of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) across all sites including collaborating with Lab ICT and other departments to assess needs review current systems and recommend and implement changes.
- Provide project management support for Pathology and Laboratory Department initiatives that enhance or introduce new information system linkages to the laboratory.
- Support optimization of post-CPOE Meditech Expanse.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures for Laboratory Information Systems.
- Develop and monitor training programs for departmental staff in the use of automated information systems.
- Configure support and analyze LIS data to make recommendations and support operational improvements quality management strategic planning and clinical/physician impact analyses.
- Recommend design and implement changes and enhancements to automated information systems.
- Evaluate and define LIS needs for patient care areas and clinical departments at Halton Healthcare ensuring LIS solutions meet clinical and operational requirements.
- Review user requests to modify existing programs and/or design and implement new programs to meet user needs.
- Support the implementation and training of computer applications used in the Laboratory.
- Review current LIS capabilities to recommend to management the development of new systems and/or modification of existing systems.
- Represent and participate in appropriate committees addressing institution-wide information systems.
- Liaise with Digital Health team to ensure LIS initiatives align with hospital-wide digital health strategies and clinical workflows.
- Participate in ICT change management processes to ensure that system upgrades and new implementations in the laboratory are introduced smoothly with appropriate communication and minimal disruption.
- Maintain current knowledge of professional standards legislation and requirements ensuring staff compliance with all relevant guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics standards and assist in maintaining the Quality Management System for Laboratory Information Systems.
- Assist with the training and orientation of new staff.
- Comply with established health and safety guidelines.
- Perform technical tasks associated with the provision of laboratory test results.
- Perform other duties as required by the Laboratory Technical Director Laboratory Manager and Pathologists.
Qualifications :

- General MLT registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) required.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant technical experience in clinical laboratories and/or design of automated information systems required.
- Diploma level in Information Technology Computer Science or an IT-related program an asset.
- Hematology Pathology and Laboratory analyzer auto-verification planning implementation and change management experience required.
- Recent experience with laboratory automation and middleware systems an asset.
- Recent experience with Meditech Expanse LIS required.
- Experience in writing Meditech NPR reports an asset.
- Proven ability to facilitate technical discussions with teams vendors business users and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation and troubleshooting of information systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft O365 applications including SharePoint Online and Teams.
- Proven ability to facilitate and implement process improvements.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and client-focused skills.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (including Clinical Informatics Digital Health and ICT departments) to achieve shared objectives.
- Knowledge of ICT change management principles and their application in healthcare information system implementations an asset.
- Able to handle multiple responsibilities with competing priorities in a fast-paced progressive environment.
- Must be physically able to perform the duties of the job.
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record.
Additional Information :
Hours: Monday to Sunday - All Shifts weekends and holidays; 7.5 hour shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $45.982 to $57.994 per hour
