Position: Toolroom and Facility Maintenance Coordinator

Department: Manufacturing

Location: 6200 Kestrel Road

Reports To: Manufacturing Manager

Position Summary

The coordinator oversees facility maintenance supporting production equipment reliability and managing all toolroom operations. This role involves performing mechanical repairs maintaining tooling and equipment and coordinating facility services while upholding health safety and environmental standards. The coordinator also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and actively participates in the Joint Health & Safety Committee.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Toolroom and Maintenance Operations:

-Purchase materials tooling and parts required for machinery and equipment repairs.

-Troubleshoot production equipment and perform mechanical repairs to minimize downtime.

-Support decision-making for new equipment tooling and process improvements.

-Install and validate new machinery and related systems.

-Collaborate with production teams to resolve daily production issues and implement continuous improvement

solutions.

-Actively participate in Production Lean 5S and Manufacturing teams leading and supporting improvement initiatives.

-Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities within production and facility operations.

-Maintain the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program and execute action items identified through audits.

-Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to maintenance staff as required

Facility Management:

-Perform building repairs or source quotes and coordinate external contractors for maintenance (e.g. roofing shipping doors

forklifts).

-Order materials and supplies for production maintenance and facility needs (e.g. salt racking janitorial supplies repair

parts).

-Review and manage contracts with external service providers (e.g. waste disposal janitorial services Cintas).

-Coordinate annual fire and sprinkler system inspections.

-Ensure compliance with safety standards and cleanliness requirements throughout the facility.

-Monitor interior and exterior areas to ensure cleanliness safety and accessibility particularly during winter conditions including snow shoveling operating a snow blower and maintaining and emptying cigarette disposal units around the facility.

-Oversee and promptly execute corrective and improvement actions identified during safety inspections.

-Support the design and implementation of layout improvements for production shipping and raw material areas.

-Coordinate landlord responsibilities including snow removal landscaping paving and structural repairs.

-Arrange required inspections with TSSA (e.g. boiler/air receiver inspections every three years).

Health & Safety:

-Participate actively in Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings.

-Deliver training for the Emergency Response Team including shutdown procedures and spill response.

-Provide employee training (e.g. WHMIS fire evacuations drills ergonomic/back safety).

-Conduct regular workplace inspection audits and propose corrective actions where necessary.

-Obtain WSIB clearance certificates from contractors as required.

-Prepare hazardous materials for disposal and complete required manifests.

-Coordinate hazardous waste disposal and maintain accurate documentation.

-Maintain records for non-hazardous waste disposal.

-Manage and update the HWIN database for waste tracking.

-Review Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and maintain accurate labeling and documentation.

-Prepare required reports (e.g. annual corporate environmental reports waste reports).

Warehouse & Production Support:

-Assist in warehouse operations including picking shipping receiving and inventory storage as needed.

-Support assembly of engineered products when required.

-Package finished goods and move them to designated storage areas.

-Build custom skids or crates for shipping finished products.

Minimum Qualifications:

Certificate of Qualification as a Machinist (experience in precision machining and toolroom operations).

35 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (Machinist Maintenance Mechanic or similar role).

Strong troubleshooting and repair experience with production equipment.

Hands-on experience operating and/or programming manual semi-automated or automated machining equipment (lathes mills grinders band saw).

Solid technical knowledge of tooling cutting and grinding processes for various materials.

Good understanding of material properties and their impact on machining and tooling performance.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings schematics and manuals

High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Valid forklift certification.

Experience supporting health and safety programs and compliance requirements

First Aid/CPR certification preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong communication skills and a proactive self-motivated approach.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel).

The posted salary range is provided in accordance with Ontario pay transparency requirements and reflects the expected hiring range. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidates skills experience and qualifications.
