About the role
Reporting into the General Counsel & Company Secretary the Head of Legal (Corporate & Commercial) position involves wide-ranging responsibilities including provision of legal services to the Corporate and Commercial focused departments and people leadership responsibilities to a team of corporate counsel. This role requires commercially focused and strategic legal expertise to support business decision making and assist the business ensure its operations are conducted within acceptable parameters in Sportsbets core wagering focus as well as its commitment to explore wider business opportunities and adjacencies (such as vision content data and free to play games).
The successful candidate will play an integral role in advising executives and high calibre subject matter experts across the Sportsbet business with a focus on the Commercial Finance & Procurement People & Culture Technology Betting Product and Data and Marketing departments. Your responsibilities will also extend to the business focus on increased technology innovation and the ongoing enhancement of data protection / privacy matters and ways of working. You will also have regular touch points and work collaboratively with Flutter Entertainment on shared initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Providing advice (and managing advice provided by external lawyers) on legal and regulatory issues of importance to the business in a range of commercial law matters and transactions with a focus on your key senior executive stakeholders (Commercial Technology and the Betting Product & Data teams) to support them achieve their strategic objectives.
- You will act as a mentor and people leader to legal team and guide in a hands on manner their performance and development.
- Developing and leading corporate legal strategy as part of Legal Risk and Corporate Affairs team to assist the business meet its strategic objectives. Identifying opportunities for improvements to processes and procedures within the Legal department.
- Managing the end-to-end legal negotiation of key transactions and other commercial agreements. This may include M&A opportunities major sponsorships technology agreements and a range of challenging multi-faceted project work.
