Job Summary
We are looking for aManagerto join our Cloud Development Teamand helpthe teamdevelop and deployservices. Working closely with our colleagues in Platform Engineering Datacentre Operations and Product Development teams you willbe responsible forthe engineerswhobuild clouds andservices onour fleet ofcutting-edgeAI systems. As part of our Platform Engineering organisation you will be involved in the cloud integration validation performance benchmarking optimisation and development of our high-performance AI solutions.This isnota hands-onrolebut it requiresa solid background incloudinfrastructure HPC IT or software engineering.This will allow you to understand the work of the team and collaborate clearly with other stakeholders about it.
You may have been working in an IT organisation a datacentre a cloud provider or as a developer of orchestration or cloudservices.Nopreviousline-management experience is but you should beready to make themovefrom individual contributor.
The Platform Engineering team atGraphcore
The Platform Engineering teambuildGraphcoreproductsinto large-scale AI solutions for ourcustomers andqualify them for our customers. The Cloud Developmentteam(part of Platform)is responsible forproviding such systemsto bothinternal users via private cloudsand customers viaour ownpublic clouds.Often the internal systems will be using and developing pre-release hardware and software soitsvital you are comfortable withunproven components.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
- Linemanagement ofengineers in the Cloud Development team.This includesday-to-day support regular reviewsmentoringand career development.
- Lead by example inpositiveconstructiveand pragmatic approaches to problem solving.
- Translation of askstechnicalrequirementsand other business needs intodeliverablesfor the team.
- Ownership of delivery relating to Cloud Development deliverables.
- Tracking and reporting on the progress of the work to the broader Platform teamand other stakeholders.
- Collaboratingwith internal customers and stakeholders in the widerGraphcorebusiness to understand theirneeds and the technical integration pain points.
- Helpingtoestablishbest practice within the Cloud Development team andsupport the engineers in delivering against it.
Skills and ExperienceALL REQUIRED
- Excellent problem-solving skillsevidencedbynumerouspreviouschallenging experiences.
- Strong inter-personal skills. You need to have a passion for doing good engineering and be able to motivate others to do the same in a highlychangeable industry.
- Goodcommunication and presentation skills and experience dealing with senior stakeholders and end-users of IT or cloud services.
- Evidence of mentoring junior colleagues leading teams or deliveries and taking responsibility for large work items.
- Bachelors degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant subject.
- Solidinfrastructureor IT experience with a proventrack recordof delivering technicaloutput as an individual contributorforat least 5 yearsduring your career.
- Experience specifying scoping estimating and detailing work plans in an AGILEand SCRUMframework including prioritiesrisks issuesimpactsand constraints.
- Experience with Continuous Integration or testing pipelines using GitLab GitHub or similar.
- A solid understanding of the technologies underpinning cloud services: e.g.tenanciesvirtualisation containerisationblock storage resourcemanagementand monitoring.
- Experience with solutions for monitoring and observability.
Desirable but notrequired:
- Line management experience ofengineers working in a similar field.
- Experience or good understanding of TerraformOpenTofu ansible Kubernetes SLURM (or similar).
- Experience or good understanding of AIor Machine-Learning workloads their networking and storage requirements and how they relate tonecessaryresources.
- Experience working in HPC environments.
- Experience working in a customer-facing support environment forcloud or IT services.
- Experienceworking in an engineering teamsupporting the development ofhardware products.
- 8years experienceworking ina related engineering role.
