Head Coach- Men's Rugby (71558)

Position Summary

Walsh University is a member of NCAA Division II that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Head Coach- Mens Rugby is responsible for coaching/mentoring student-athletes technically and tactically on the field as well as guiding them through academic achievement and personal development. The coach is also responsible for actively recruiting and retaining student athletes in addition to supervision of their program staff. The Head Coach oversees the mens rugby program and reports to the VP for Athletics/Athletic Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

Coaching/mentoring:

• Develop and communicate goals expectations and accountability to help maintain high standard of performance ethics and sportsmanship on the field in the classroom and in the community.
• Create a relationship built on the sincere interest in each student-athletes academic athletic and personal pursuits.
• Be prepared to collaborate with other college staff when/if necessary.
• Plan organize and facilitate individual and team training and competition.
• Study and implement strategy and skills needed to prepare for competition.
• Learn know and abide by NCAA Division II rules and regulations.
• Lead in a way that positively reflects the mission and vision of the institution.
• Adhere to rules guidelines and principles set forth by the Atlantic Rugby Conference
• Supervise and train staff to plan communicate create and model the same expectations as the head coach.

Recruiting:

• Develop a strategic plan to identify and evaluate talent that would be a good fit for Walsh University.
• Create relationships with prospective student-athletes their families clubs and high school coaches.
• Build and maintain prospect database through recruiting events and camps/clinics.
• Organize and work collaboratively with admissions to bring quality student-athletes on campus.
• Reach/Manage enrollment number

Other duties:

• Effectively manage operating budget with a balanced budget mentality.
• Organize transportation practices and all game day preparations.
• Identify and purchase program equipment with AD approval.
• Establish and maintain an alumni relationship.
• Be creative and willing to fundraise to support operating budget.
• Other duties as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Abilities)

Must demonstrate an understanding the Walsh University Statement of Faith and a commitment to support the Mission Vision Values and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University in accordance with Ex Corde Ecclesiae and the Catholic intellectual tradition. Must also possess the following:

Education:

Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree preferred/encouraged.

Work Experience:

At least 3 years coaching experience as a head coach at the collegiate level or other significant experience relative to coaching Rugby and/or the administration of an intercollegiate athletics program.

Skills and abilities:

• Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
• First Aid CPR AED certification required.

• Ability to work collaboratively with game day operations possibility lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to stand in the outdoors/elements for 3 hours.
