Position Summary

Concordia University Wisconsin Ann Arbor (CUWAA) invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Philosophy teaching on the Mequon campus.

The Philosophy program has a strong emphasis on a dialogue between Christian thought and secular philosophies. It explicitly upholds CUWAAs Mission statement by helping students develop their minds for service to Christ in the church and the world. More specifically the Philosophy program fosters deep examination of who we are what is real and how we are called to think and act thereby promoting intellectual development and self-knowledge for the students personal growth and well-being and providing insights for Christian action in the world.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • For this faculty position the Area of Specialization (AOS) is open but candidates should have a strong grounding in the history of philosophy (Ancient Medieval or Modern) and a desire to teach a range of core classes as well as classes in the Philosophy and PPE programs.
  • Candidates should be excellent versatile teachers with a winsome engaging style that fosters excitement and interest in studying philosophy within an academically diverse audience.
  • Teaching assignments will include core classes and other classes in the Philosophy and PPE programs based on student demand and the candidates qualifications and interest.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Candidates should have a passion to integrate Christian insights into their research and teaching and strongly support a confessional Lutheran understanding of the world. Concordia University values excellent classroom teaching and active participation in campus life. All faculty engage in scholarship committee work and advising. This position reports to the Chair of Humanities and Social Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences.

Education & Experience

A doctorate in Philosophy is preferred. Additional degrees in related areas such as Apologetics or Theology (MDiv STM or equivalent) may be an advantage. Highly qualified applicants making progress toward a doctorate in Philosophy will be considered.

All Concordia University faculty are members of Christian congregations; members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod receive preference in hiring.
