JOB TITLE: STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING TEACHER

JOB SUMMARY:The Strength and Conditioning Teacher is responsible for providing instruction in strength and conditioning for all sportsgrades 9-12 with the three major goals of improving athletic performance reducing athletic injuries and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. The Strength and Conditioning Teacher will work closely under the direction of the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator the Athletic Director and the High School Principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Implement within the framework of the Districts strength and conditioning program strength training and conditioning programs in-season off-season pre-season and summer for all school-sanctioned male and female athletic programs grades 9-12 under the direction of the District Strength and Conditioning Coordinator.
  • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes.
  • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches sports medicine and the strength and conditioning staff.
  • Implement under the direction of the District Strength and Conditioning Coordinator policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with theNSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards and Guidelines.
  • Develop systems for tracking athlete attendance and athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches.
  • Support the implementation of OSDE Health Standards
  • Communicate and reinforce expectations for athlete conduct that mirror the schools expectations for curricula and extra-curricular activities as stated in the schools Student Code of Conduct.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated time unless appropriate Principal/Personnel have been notified.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation that reflect objectives to be achieved.
  • Creates an effective learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students within the limits of the resources of the district.
  • Discerns students needs and refers when appropriate to school personnel who can best help with their needs.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
  • Plans curriculum and activities in cooperation with administration that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of students.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment and facilities.
  • Assists administration in developing/implementing policies rules and regulations.
  • Attends and participates in faculty and professional activities.
  • Completes reports and other school related paperwork within time and date requested.
  • Accepts responsibility and arrives punctually for activities and duties as assigned.
  • Upgrades professional growth through one or more of the following:
    • Professional training courses
    • Workshops
    • Seminars
    • Conferences
    • College classes
    • Other professional activities
  • Maintains appropriate emotional control physical health and personal appearance.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Superintendent.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in Kinesiology or related field; or equivalent experience in the field
  • Oklahoma teaching certification or the ability to obtain Oklahoma teaching certification
  • A current relevant professional certification or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment credentialed by an independent accreditation agencyfor example the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification is preferred
  • Current standard first aid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications prior to start date of the position to be maintained for the duration of the position.
  • A strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
  • Experience and/or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for high school populations.
  • Strong motivational abilities.
  • Evidence of ability to interact positively with student athletes colleagues and the public.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to work within various degrees of noise temperature and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments.
  • Will be required to regularly stand and walk for extended periods; occasionally sit for extended periods
  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 75 pounds
  • May experience constant interruptions inflexible deadlines and changes to normal routines.
  • The ability to communicate with various groups of people is essential. This may include communication with parents teachers administrators support staff and outside agencies.
  • The ability to effectively balance time and effectiveness in an office environment a classroom environment and a collaborative leadership environment constitute a portion of this job.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT (Benefits information based on most current information available):

  • 182 Day Contract; Salary based on full time teaching experience in an educational setting
  • This position is five sections per day during the high school schedule timeframe and one section for planning purposes. Additional sections for coaching within the school day are not permitted but may be available outside of the school day (after school)
